Abstract: A method for correcting artifacts in artificial reality headsets is provided. The method includes coupling a first image portion into a waveguide in a display for an artificial reality device, provided by a first array of pixels, coupling a second image portion into the waveguide in the display, provided by a second array of pixels, directing the first image portion through an eyebox, directing the second image portion through the eyebox, and tiling, in a user's retina, the first image portion and the second image portion to form an image having an extended field of view that includes an overlapping area comprising light provided by the first array of pixels and the second array of pixels. A system including a memory storing instructions and a processor to execute the instructions to cause the system to perform the above method are also provided.

Abstract: A light projection system includes a light source configured to emit image light and an optical assembly configured to provide positive optical power to the image light and optically correct the image light. The optical assembly comprises a plurality of optical elements configured to correct differential distortion related to the image light across a field of view (FOV) within a threshold amount. The differential distortion is corrected based in part on asymmetry of the plurality of optical elements relative to an optical axis shared by the plurality of optical elements.

Abstract: A depth camera assembly (DCA) for depth sensing of a local area. The DCA includes a transmitter, a receiver, and a controller. The transmitter illuminates a local area with outgoing light in accordance with emission instructions. The transmitter includes a fine steering element and a coarse steering element. The fine steering element deflects one or more optical beams at a first deflection angle to generate one or more first order deflected scanning beams. The coarse steering element deflects the one or more first order deflected scanning beams at a second deflection angle to generate the outgoing light projected into the local area. The receiver captures one or more images of the local area including portions of the outgoing light reflected from the local area. The controller determines depth information for one or more objects in the local area based in part on the captured one or more images.

Abstract: Embodiments relate to tracking and determining a location of an object in an environment surrounding a user. A system includes one or more imaging devices and an object tracking unit. The system identifies an object in a search region, determines a tracking region that is smaller than the search region corresponding to the object, and scans the tracking region to determine a location associated with the object. The system may generate a ranking of objects, determine locations associated with the objects, and generate a model of the search region based on the locations associated with the objects.

Abstract: A multi-functional diffractive optical element (DOE) for redirecting light into a waveguide and providing higher order aberration correction is described. The multi-functional DOE may be positioned on, connected to, adjacent to, or within a waveguide, and in some examples is positioned at, or near, the exit pupil of the projector lens. In an example, a head-mounted display (HMD) is configured to output artificial reality content, comprising a waveguide configured to receive input light and configured to output the received input light to an eyebox. Abstract: A volumetric depth image is captured. The volumetric depth image includes a front surface of a prescription lens, a back surface of the prescription lens, and a cornea of an eye of a wearer of the prescription lens. Lens-to-eye data is determined from the volumetric depth image. The lens-to-eye data includes measurements of the prescription lens with respect to the eye. A three-dimensional (3D) optical-mechanical fit profile is generated or the wearer based on the lens-to-eye data.

Abstract: A super-resolution scanning display. The scanning display includes a light source, a conditioning assembly, and a scanning mirror assembly. The light source is configured to emit source light from a plurality of columns of emitters formed along a first dimension, including at least a first column of emitters emitting in a first band of light and a second column of emitters emitting in a second band of light which are offset along the first dimension by a fraction of an emitter width and offset along a second dimension—that is orthogonal to the first dimension—by greater than the emitter width. The conditioning assembly receives and conditions the source light. The scanning mirror assembly scans the conditioned light along the second dimension to generate a portion of an image at a first location with a resolution that is more than a first threshold number of emitters in a unit angle in the first dimension.
