Abstract: In accordance with a first aspect of the present disclosure, an ultra-wideband (UWB) receiver is provided, comprising: an attack mitigation unit configured to mitigate one or more attacks on a correlation function; a correlation unit configured to perform the correlation function by correlating an input signal received by the UWB receiver with a predefined sequence and to generate a correlation output based on correlating said input signal with the predefined sequence; and a first path detection unit configured to receive the correlation output and to detect a first path by evaluating the correlator output during a correlation window, said correlation window being a predefined period of time. In accordance with a second aspect of the present disclosure, a corresponding method of operating a UWB receiver is conceived. In accordance with a third aspect of the present disclosure, a computer program is provided for carrying out said method.

Abstract: A method for first path acceptance for secure ranging includes determining a Channel Impulse Response (CIR) of a communication channel for a plurality of channel taps. Each channel tap corresponds to a respective one of a plurality of time slots of the CIR, wherein the CIR includes a plurality of estimated CIR values. A statistical characteristic is extracted from the estimated CIR values within a temporal range of the channel taps. The statistical characteristic is compared to a reference value to detect a distance decreasing attack.

Abstract: A processing module for a receiver device is disclosed. The processing module is configured to provide for processing of a signal received by the receiver device from a transmitter device. The signal includes a secure training sequence divided into a plurality of time spaced blocks. The secure training sequence incoudes a non-repeating pattern of symbols. The processing module is configured to, based on a first phase marker in the first block and a second phase marker in the second block defining a phase difference of the signal between the first and second antennas and a known spacing of the first antenna relative to the second antenna, determine an angle of arrival of the signal relative to the receiver device.

Abstract: A processing module for a receiver device configured to provide for processing of a frame received by the receiver device from a transmitter device, the at least one frame comprising a plurality of repeating predetermined synchronization symbols for providing synchronization between the processing module and the transmitter device and one or more start-of-frame symbols defining the end of the synchronization symbols, the processing module configured to: perform cross correlation to obtain a cross-correlation function on i) at least a part of the received frame; with ii) a predetermined modulation sequence used to modulate the one or more start-of-frame symbols and not the synchronization symbols; and determine the location of the start-of-frame symbols based on an increase, above a threshold increase, in the cross-correlation function from a negative cross-correlation with the synchronization symbols to a greater cross-correlation with the part of the received frame containing the start-of-frame symbols.

Abstract: A processing module for a transmitter device configured to provide for generation of a signal comprising at least one frame for transmission by the transmitter device to a receiver device, the processing module configured to provide for processing of an input pulse stream comprising a stream of pulses representative of data, to provide an output pulse stream, each pulse of the pulse streams having one of two states defining the phase with which a carrier wave is modulated; the processing module configured to; divide the input pulse stream into consecutive groups of pulses; and for each group of pulses, based on determination that the first two or more consecutive pulses of the group have the same polarity, provide for addition of at least one dummy pulse to the group directly after the first two or more consecutive pulses, with an opposite polarity.
