The method includes the following operations: when forwarding a multicast Bit Indexed Explicit Replication Traffic Engineering (BIER-TE) packet, a forwarding node detects whether an abnormality occurs in a forwarding link between the forwarding node and a next node; in responsive to detecting that an abnormality occurs in the forwarding link between the forwarding node and the next node, the forwarding node determines whether the multicast BIER-TE packet is configured with a multicast fast switching tag; and in responsive to determining, by the forwarding node, that the multicast BIER-TE packet is configured with the multicast fast switching tag, multicast fast switching is performed according to the multicast fast switching tag.
