Abstract:
A solar thermal cell must include such a means of stopping solar radiation that no radiation is reemitted. Known art black, heat-binding absorbing surfaces are of this kind. The collecting of solar radiation energy should take place using a liquid jacket covering the entire southfacing pane of the roof, the said liquid jacket being implemented by means of a relatively inexpensive, well-sealed structure that should also be capable of withstanding strains such as that caused by snow.Underneath solar thermal cell's intermediate spaces (5) for the heatcollecting liquid, there is a dark-surfaced mineral wool board (1) stopping solar radiation. The intermediate space (5) may be located between two light-admitting membranes (2 and 3) and overlying there may be a light-admitting sheet of corrugated fiberglass (4). Between the membranes (2 and 3) or equivalent there may be ridges (6) forming intermediate spaces (5) between the mebranes (2 and 3). The intermediate spaces (5) may be arranged in tiers; e.g. three tiers with uppermost tier being a heatinsulating air space and the lowermost tier containing a mineral wool board (1).
Abstract:
A solar collector device for the warming up of water, comprising a flat cylinder-shaped absorber element through which the water flows and made of temperature resistent black polymeric film material, on the sunside a cover element of at least one transparent polymeric film and on the shadowside an insulation panel. In the black polymeric film of the absorber element spectral-selective absorption pigment is embedded and an inner film is used with a high impermeability for water and water vapor, which latter film is laminated with the black outer film to one integrated film. The absorber element is executed for a great length of many tens of meters. A water header having a weir device is provided at the outlet side of the absorber element and, below said header, a water collecting tank. The weir device has such a height with respect to the absorber element, that, in combination with the correct dimensioning of the water inlet and outlet openings, the absorber element operates with a water layer height of a few centimeters c.q. with a water velocity of a few centimeters per second.
Abstract:
A plastic heat exchanger comprises a single heat exchanger construction made up of a plate having two spaced apart walls and with a plurality of substantially parallel cross webs interconnecting the two walls which define a multiplicity of longitudinal heat transfer medium flow channels. The plate is assembled with a distribution and collection element which has spaced apart walls which are adapted to be arranged in abutting relationship with the walls of the plate and welded together with them to form a unit. The distribution and collecting element includes at least one heat transfer fluid plastic nipple inlet connection and at least one heat transfer fluid plastic nipple outlet connection. Advantageously, each unit may be interconnected by means of a plate which connects one nipple element of one distribution connecting element with a different nipple element of the next adjacent distribution and collection element. Advantageously the units are provided with inlets and outlets on each end and they may be easily interconnected with each transfer fluid connecting lines.
Abstract:
A heat-transfer panel or sheet material comprises a woven wire mesh core of high thermal conductivity metal, for example copper or nickel, embedded in a closure layer of plastics material, for example a urethane, so that the mesh and the closure layer extend in the same longitudinal direction. The mesh core defines a nodal network and the nodes are located at or closely adjacent the outer surfaces of the closure layer so that satisfactory heat transfer between opposite sides of the panel is achieved over the whole outer surface area of the panel by virtue of heat conduction by the mesh core.
Abstract:
A solar heating panel unit is provided in the form of a plastic pouch having an internal chamber provided with a serpentine path. The pouch has two sides, one of which consists of a layer of anti-abrasive matte black plastic and a sealant inner layer of black medium density polyethylene film. The other side incorporates a reflective layer of aluminum foil. The pouch has inlets and outlets, whereat hardware fixtures are employed, consisting of threadably engaged parts having flanges between which is clamped a wall of the pouch. The pouch, or a plurality of such pouches, may be incorporated into systems wherein a cold water source is connected selectively through the pouch to a tank or through a boiler, whereof the boiler or the tank supplies a construction requiring heated water. Alternatively, the system may be such that the tank is excluded.
Abstract:
The disclosure relates to an active solar collector having increased energy rejection during stagnation. The collector's glazing is brought into substantial contact with absorber during stagnation to increase re-emittance and thereby to maintain lower temperatures when the collector is not in operation.
Abstract:
An improved method of making a solar energy collector is disclosed. The method involves fusing a collector panel to headers using a high frequency magnetic field. End fitments are also fused to the headers. Other improvements in solar energy collectors per se are also disclosed.
Abstract:
A solar flat plate absorber panel is molded from a laminate consisting of a suitable web material impregnated with a thermosetting phenolic resin. The absorber plate is pressure formed from superimposed layers of material and mold-cured to produce a unitary structure having a first or solar radiation absorbing surface on one side and an integral closed hollow lattice work of fluid heat transfer passages on the other or reverse side of the panel. The laminate web may be made from any suitable material such as paper, cloth, canvas or wire mesh which is easily impregnated with a thermosetting phenolic resin. In the preferred embodiment a B-stage phenol-formaldehyde resin is used. The two superimposed sheets of impregnated material are molded between heated platens of an hydraulic press to form an integral structure and fluid pressure between the sheets is utilized to mold the desired passage shape 5.
Abstract:
A crop-drying system utilizing a conventional crop or grain confining bin having means for delivering drying air to the grain retained within the bin. A solar pre-heat chamber is utilized to deliver pre-heated air to the impeller, with the solar pre-heat chamber comprising an elongated tubular structure having bottom, side and top walls, and wherein the bottom wall is an opaque, highly absorbant flexible film, with the side and top walls being transparent, highly transmissive flexible films. In this fashion, solar radiation passes through the top and side walls, and is absorbed on the bottom wall where the air passing adjacent thereto becomes heated due to transfer of thermal energy by additional radiation or conductive transfer.
Abstract:
Method and apparatus for converting solar radiation to thermal energy for heating a gaseous stream such as air to be used for heating or drying purposes. The air or other gaseous mixture is flowed through an elongated heating passage defined by plastic film formed of solar radiation absorbing or opaque (black) material and the film is inflated by the fluid pressure of the gaseous stream passing therethrough. The heating passage is surrounded on top by an insulating space defined by the outer surface of the top portion of the opaque film and by an outer sheet of clear (solar radiation transparent) plastic film that is inflated into an expanded position by the gaseous insulating medium therein. Air or another gaseous mixture is flowed through the heating passage wherein solar radiation absorbed by the film is converted to thermal energy that is transferred to the gaseous stream.
