摘要:
A method and apparatus for performing music on an electronic instrument in which individual chord progression chords can be triggered in real-time, while simultaneously making the individual notes of the chord, and/or possible scale notes and non-scale notes to play along with the chord, available for playing in separate fixed-locations on the instrument. The method of performance involves the designation of a chord progression section on the instrument, then assigning chords or individual chord notes to this chord progression section according to the defined customary scale or customary scale equivalent of a song key. Further, as each chord is played in the chord progression section, the individual notes of the currently triggered chords are simultaneously made available for playing in separate fixed locations on the instrument. Fundamental and alternate notes of each chord may be made available for playing in separate fixed locations for performance purposes. Possible scale notes and/or non-scale notes to play along with the currently triggered chord, may also be simultaneously made available for playing in separate fixed locations on the instrument. All performance data can be stored in memory or on a storage device, and can later be retrieved and performed by a user from one or more fixed locations on the instrument. The performance data may also be performed using a variable number of input controllers. Multiple instruments of the present invention can also be used together to allow interaction among multiple users during performance, with no knowledge of music theory required. Further, the present invention can allow professional performance to be achieved with little or no hand movement being required. Input controllers are configured into a group or groups to provide dramatically reduced hand movement during performance. Input controller groups are then used efficiently at all times to allow a user improved access to a variety of different notes and note groups needed to initiate a professional performance. An untrained user is thus able to create professional music with an absolute minimal amount of physical skill being required, while retaining fill creative control over the music to be performed.

An automatic composer comprises an input device which inputs part of a musical piece and information on the progression of music such as a chord progression, an analyzer which extracts parameters characterizing the part of the musical piece, and a melody generator which develops the complete musical piece by using the characteristic parameters and the chord progression. As a result, the characteristics of the part of the musical piece may be present, to a desired extent, throughout the completed musical piece, so that a satisfactory balance is achieved between the consistency and variety of the music.

An electrically-keyed musical instrument has a double-row keyboard in which back digitals alternate with front digitals throughout the keyboard. The keyboard is provided with two sets of landmarks to assist playing from either the traditional notation or a six-tone notation. The musical instrument has an electronic key signature actuator apparatus which may be set to physically actuate any key signature of music written in the traditional notation, so that the diatonic tones in the selected key can be played entirely on the front digitals of the keyboard. The other five tones of the chromatic scale must be played on back digitals of the keyboard. The electronic apparatus also allows the front digitals to play the whole-tone scale or a hexachord scale, and to play the hexachord scale in any selected one of twelve different hexachord keys. A person trained on the instrument in a six-tone notation can, by throwing a switch, easily play music written in the traditional notation. Furthermore, the musical instrument can be used by musicians trained in the traditional system to play music written in the traditional notation, or by throwing a switch, in the six-tone notation.

When a musician presses the digital of a musical instrument, a digital identifying number is transmitted to a separate sound generator, where a tone of the appropriate pitch is generated. A musical scale selecting and musical key signature actuating apparatus intercepts this transmission. The apparatus contains a number changer which can change the numbers transmitted to the sound generator so that the same sequence of instrument digitals can sound either the diatonic scale or a musical scale having only six tones per octave, and a musician can play from music written in different diatonic musical keys with the sharps or flats in its key signature automatically actuated.

A key signature actuator for musical keyboard eases playing from music written with a difficult key signature by automatically actuating the sharps or flats in the key signature. Musical notes are associated with keyboard landmarks positioned along the keyboard rather than with fixed digitals, and the landmarks are moved bodily up or down the keyboard to identify different sequences of digitals to associate with the notes. An automated key signature actuator moves a keynote of the desired key signature to the keyboard position normally occupied by middle C, at the same time changing the overall pitch of the musical output to make the keynote sound as intended. The changeable keyboard landmarks are also used in the teaching of music and to assist the playing of music written in different notations.

The organ plays either a hexatonic scale or the diatonic scale on its front digitals. The organ has a tone transposition apparatus comprising a scale selector apparatus, a key selector apparatus and an absolute pitch changer switch. The key selector apparatus includes a hexachord key selector switch in cascade with a diatonic key selector switch. Each key selector switch is formed by two linear arrays of movable contacts sliding along two linear arrays of stationary contacts. Either of these key selector switches can be set to physically activate key signatures of written music. The key selector apparatus operates on the top octave of tones; lower tones are derived from the top octave by frequency division.

A automatic composer automatically forms a rhythm pattern. Reference rhythm patterns representing a sequence of a plurality of tone durations are generated, and a pulse scale source provides a pulse scale of pulse points having weights for joining or disjoining tone durations, depending on their positions. The reference rhythm pattern is modified by executing one of joining or disjoining tone durations in accordance with the pulse scale. Also disclosed is an automatic composer for composing an entire musical piece, wherein featuring parameters are extracted from an inputted portion of a musical piece, and an entire musical piece is composed in accordance with at least the extracted featuring parameters. According to a preferred arrangement, the featuring parameters are extracted in accordance with at least one of a sequence of tone pitches and a sequence of tone durations, the sequences defining the inputted portion of the musical piece.

The organ is designed to play six-tone musical scales, which lead naturally to a simple and easily learned system of hexatonic notation. A scale selector apparatus can be set to make different hexatonic scales playable on the front digitals of the keyboard. For most advantageous use of the instrument, music should be written in or translated into hexatonic notation. The instrument can also be used to play conventionally written music, by using the scale selector apparatus to translate into the conventional diatonic scale.A hexatonic scale selector switch operates on the top octave of tones; lower tones are derived from the top octave by means of chains of frequency dividers. The association of tones with digitals will be correct in lower octaves of the keyboard, provided that all the musical scales have the same number of tones per octave. For translation to the diatonic scale, it is necessary to use a second scale selector switch operating on the outputs from the chains of frequency dividers.
