    Abstract: Systems are provided comprising at least one driving cylinder comprising a driving chamber and a driving piston within the driving chamber. The driving piston separates the driving chamber into a driving fluid zone for receiving a driving fluid and a buffer zone for receiving a buffer fluid. The driving piston is movable in the driving chamber by the driving fluid. The systems may also comprise a driven cylinder comprising a driven chamber and a driven piston moveable in the driven chamber. The driven piston is connected to and driven by the driving piston to move within the driven chamber. The driven chamber comprises an input port configured to receive a driven fluid at a first, lower pressure into the driven chamber and an output port configured to expel the driven fluid at a second, higher pressure from the driven chamber when the driven fluid is pressurized by the driven piston. The buffer fluid is different from the driving fluid and the driven fluid, and the buffer fluid in the buffer zone separates the driving fluid from the driven fluid.

    Abstract: A method and system are disclosed for pumping a multi-phase fluid from an oil well. The method may comprise delivering a flow of a multi-phase fluid to a multi-phase fluid pumping system, wherein the multi-phase fluid has a gas/liquid ratio that varies during operation. The multi-phase fluid pumping system is operated to increase the pressure of the multi-phase fluid that is delivered thereto. Thereafter the flow of pressurized multi-phase fluid is delivered from the multi-phase fluid pumping system to one or more discharge conduits. The pump system may have a pump fluid chamber between opposed pairs of buffer chambers and driving fluid chambers. Seals may be provided to seal the respective chambers.

    Abstract: A pressure amplifier (1) is described comprising a housing (2), an amplification piston (5) in the housing (2) having a high pressure area (9) in a high pressure chamber (5) and a low pressure area (8) in a low pressure chamber (3), and a switching valve (11) having a pressured control valve element having a larger pressure area (16) and a small pressure area (17). Such a pressure amplifier should have a high operating frequency. To this end the valve element (10) and the amplification piston (5) are located in a same bore (3, 4) in the housing (2).

    Abstract: Thermal energy recovery systems include a piston assembly including a primary cylinder adapted to receive vapor; a single-acting secondary cylinder/piston assembly extending from opposite ends of the primary cylinder; a primary piston disposed for displacement in the primary cylinder; first and second secondary pistons disposed for displacement in the secondary cylinder/piston; and a piston connecting member connecting the first and second secondary pistons to the primary piston. Alternatively, a secondary piston is of the type of a double-acting piston for a more compact reciprocating function to reduce piston friction losses. Metering valves regulate the vapor pressure being introduced into displacement volume chambers at a constant pressure. A working fluid pressure-tank/accumulator/transfer-conduit is in communication with the displacement volume chambers to help regulate pressure of the working fluid. A working fluid transfer conduit forms integrally with the working fluid pressure-tank/accumulator to reduce fluid friction losses.

    Abstract: Methods and systems are provided to adaptively control a hydraulic fluid supply to supply a driving fluid for applying a driving force on a piston in a gas compressor, the driving force being cyclically reversed between a first direction and a second direction to cause the piston to reciprocate in strokes. During a first stroke of the piston, a speed of the piston, a temperature of the driving fluid, and a load pressure applied to the piston is monitored. Reversal of the driving force after the first stroke is controlled based on the speed, load pressure, and temperature.

    Abstract: A submersible, hydraulically actuated, multi-stage double-acting positive displacement pump system is provided. The system has a hydraulically actuated reciprocating linear double-acting motor centrally disposed between and connected to double-action fluid pumps on either side of the motor, with pistons of each of pump and the motor all in the annular space between an inner wall of the apparatus' cylindrical body and the outer wall of a cylindrical production fluid conduit concentrically disposed within the body, to pump wellbore fluid from outside the assembly through the pumps and into the central production fluid conduit. The rate and direction of hydraulic fluid flow through the actuator may be controlled by VFD motors and PLC controller on the ground, and through at least one electromechanical valve and two limit switches mounted to the downhole components.

    Abstract: The present invention is directed to a water pump that may be easily constructed from inexpensive parts and materials and that is powered by the water source from which the water to be pumped is drawn. In a preferred embodiment, two pairs of lever arms located on opposite sides of the pump are alternately filled with water from the source and then emptied causing the lever arms to alternately ascend and descend. As the lever arms ascend and descend, they alternately fill and then compress a pair of pistons causing water to be pumped to an outlet of the pump. Water from the emptied lever arms may preferably be returned to the source, thus minimizing any impact of the pump on the environment and downstream users of the water source.

    Abstract: A hydraulically-driven pumping unit for pumping a working fluid includes a pair of double-acting hydraulic piston-cylinder (HPC) assemblies, each having a central axis, a hydraulic cylinder, a piston, and a rod coupled to the piston for axial movement relative to the first hydraulic cylinder. The pumping unit also includes a hydraulic fluid source and an exhaust path for hydraulic fluid. The two hydraulic cylinders are coupled to the hydraulic fluid source and the exhaust path such that the movements of the two pistons are synchronized. The two HPC assemblies are configured for phase-shifted operation such that when pumping unit is reciprocating the two pistons and rods, the a first pair of the pistons and rods always has a different combination of axial position and direction of travel than does a other pair of the pistons and rods. During phase-shifted operation, at least one of the two rods is moving to extend further beyond the corresponding hydraulic cylinder at all times.
