A reticulate heater has a net-mesh-like-structured heat generator 2 including a plurality of heater wires 20 each having the same wire diameter of from 0.02 to 0.12 mm. The plurality of heater wires 20 are formed into the net-mesh-like-structured heat generator 2 by a tricot knitting technique wherein loops are vertically formed by vertically knitting the heater wire on a continuous and planar basis. The knit meshes of the tricot knitting each have a pitch of 0.5 to 5 mm. Also, the heater wires may be the ones prepared by covering the heater bare wires with a for-enamel-wire coating. Further, the net-mesh-like-structured heat generator 2 may be the one including a plurality of first heater wires each consisting of a heater bare wire only and a plurality of second heater wires each prepared by covering the heater bare wire with a for-enamel-wire coating, the first and second heater wires being formed into the net-mesh-like-structured heat generator by a tricot knitting technique. As a result of this, the reticulate heater can be close adhered also to a complex curved surface. In addition, the reticulate heater can be also brought to a state of its being electrically very stable. Also, it can be arranged that a prescribed amount of heat generated be obtained.

A safe electrical heat energy generator which comprises a heater unit equipped with a set of systematically organized heat radiating metal fins. A feature of the invention is its reenforced compact structure in which a heating element arrangement and the heat radiating metal fin arrangement are manufactured as a single heater unit structure. In such a structure, a heating element is surrounded with an insulating layer and enclosed inside a central heat conductive tubing of the framework for the metal fin arrangement, thereby defining the major components of the heater unit. In this manner, the entire heater unit structure is the source of radiant heat energy, not simply the heating element itself.

Methods of manufacturing electrical resistance heating elements are provided which include mating a pair of polymeric components around an electrical resistance heating material prior to fusing the polymeric components together, preferably by heat or pressure or both. Methods of stress relieving these polymeric components before, during or after fusing them together, are disclosed. Additionally, thermally conductive, non-electrically conductive additives can be added to improve the service life of the elements. In a further embodiment of this invention, a heating element and method of construction are provided in which first and second polymeric components are joined together with a resistance heating material therebetween. The polymeric components include retention means including a plurality of male connectors located on the first polymeric component, and a plurality of female receiving recesses located on the second polymeric component for mating with the male connectors of the first polymeric component. The polymeric components can optionally be joined together by the fusing techniques of this invention.

The present invention relates to an electric heating device which is especially conceived as a heating device for use in automotive vehicles. A plurality of heating elements, which are stacked so as to define a heating block, form together with a control device a structural unit. For this purpose, the control device is accommodated in a lateral bar of the frame by means of which the heating elements are held together. The air to be heated flows through the heating block as well as through windows provided in the lateral bar, past cooling elements which are respectively connected to the power-electronics components of the control device.
