摘要: A method implemented in a server computer for producing a package of printed documents from multiple original digital documents. A user specifies the multiple original digital documents, their order in the package, and print settings for each original digital document. The user further specifies additional print settings for the package. The server generates a combined digital document by combining contents of the plurality of original digital documents in the specified order, and generates a package job ticket that specifies print settings for the combined digital document in accordance with the print settings for the plurality of original digital documents. The server submits the combined digital document and the package job ticket as a print job to a printer. The printer executes the package print job to produce the multiple documents in the specified order which form a package of printer materials.

摘要: A digital rights management method provides effective enforcement of purchase requirements to prevent users from accessing documents before purchasing the rights, and also provides the users with limited trial access to review the document before purchase. A digital rights management server maintains a database with information regarding users' payment status with respect to documents and their trial access status with respect to unpaid documents. Various trial modes may be implemented, including a “trial period” mode, a “number of attempts to open” mode, and a “summary view” mode. When a user attempts to access a document, the application on the client computer transmits a request to the server, and the server determines whether the user has paid for the document, or whether he should be given trial access, and transmits a reply to the client accordingly. The reply may include an invitation to pay for the document.

摘要: A method of forming a coating that includes depositing a multicomponent glass layer on a polymer substrate and depositing a heat absorbing layer on the multicomponent glass layer. Inducing spinodal decomposition of the multicomponent glass layer by annealing the heat absorbing layer, and etching at least one of a phase separated component of the multicomponent glass layer. The spinodal decomposition may be achieved through a pulse thermal or electromagnetic assisted annealing process. The coating may then be used as a hydrophilic surface, or may be fluorinated using conventional methods to produce the superhydrophobic coating.

摘要: A word segmentation method for segmenting a text line into word segments, which is particularly advantageous for processing italic text but can also be used for regular text. A horizontal center zone of the text line, corresponding to the vertical center parts of the characters, is used to generate a center-zone-only vertical projection profile. The center zone is determined using a horizontal projection profile, by locating the two major peaks of that profile and defining the two major peak positions as the upper and lower boundaries of the center zone. Spacing segments (white gaps) in the vertical projection profile are identified, and classified into two classes, namely character spacing (gap between characters with a word) and word spacing (gap between words). The word spacings are used to segment the text line into word segments.

摘要: A method for authenticating a printed document which carries barcode that encode authentication data, including word bounding boxes for each word in the original document image and data for reconstructing the original image. The printed document is scanned to generate a target document image, which is then segmented into text words. The word bounding boxes of the original and target document images are used to align the target document image. Then, each word in the original document image is compared to corresponding words in the target document image using word difference map and Hausdorff distance between them. Symbols of the original document image are further compared to corresponding symbols in the target document image using feature comparison, symbol difference map and Hausdorff distance comparison, and point matching. These various comparison results can identify alterations in the target document with respect to the original document, which can be visualized.

摘要: A digital rights management (DRM) method for protecting emails can apply different protection policies to different components of an email such as the message body and the attached digital files. While an email application of the client encrypts the entire email document including both the message and the attachments, a plugin module on the client obtains user input regarding the DRM policies to be applied to individual attachments and then transmits the encrypted email along with the information about the DRM policies for the individual attachments to a digital rights management server. The server first decrypts the entire email document, then applies the user-specified DRM policies to the attachments individually. The server re-composes an email and attaches the individually protected attachments, and transmits the email to the exchange server.

摘要: A method and system for color calibration for digital microscopy includes obtaining an image of a stained sample and obtaining a desired stain type and density information. A synthesizing spectral absorption is determined based on the desired stain type and density, and a digital image is produced from the image of the stained sample based on a spectral absorption of the desired stain type, density, and a light source. The image is then outputted to a storage medium or display. The method also includes estimating a stain type used in the image of the stained sample, and estimating a density of the stained sample.

摘要: An improved method implemented in a print job management apparatus for processing print jobs in a multiple-printer print shop environment is described. When an operator manually assigns a print job to a printer, the job ticket settings of print job are compared with capabilities of the printer to detect any constraints (i.e. incompatibilities). Messages including textual descriptions of the detected constraints are displayed in a UI, and job ticket settings that caused each constraint are displayed adjacent the corresponding message. The job ticket settings display allows the operator to change values of the job ticket settings and then re-evaluate the job assignment to detect any further constraints. The display and input steps are performed using a single UI. The changed job ticket settings are kept in a temporary version of the job ticket, and the original job ticket is updated with the changed values when the job is finally printed.

摘要: A 2D color barcode layout is disclosed. The barcode includes a 2D array of data cells, four corner locators, and border reference cells forming four borders between the corner locators that substantially surround the array of data cells. Each data cell and border reference cell has one of four primary colors (e.g. CMYK). Most border reference cells have the same size as the data cells, except for yellow ones which are longer. The border reference cells form a repeating color sequence along the borders, and are used during decoding to calculate (1) the channel offset (a spatial offset) of each primary color at different locations along the borders and (2) the reference (average) color values of each primary color. During decoding, the color values of each data cell is measured while taking into account channel offset which is calculated by interpolating the channel offset of the border reference cells.
