    Abstract: Different implementations are described; particularly implementations for video encoding and decoding using merge lists comprising history-based motion vector predictor candidates and averaged motion vector predictor candidates. The method comprises: determining for a current block of the picture one or more history-based motion vector predictor candidates using motion information of blocks preceding the current block; determining for the current block one or more averaged motion vector predictor candidates by averaging a pair of motion vector predictor candidates in a list of motion vector predictor candidates, wherein the motion vector predictor candidates in the list are formed using motion information of blocks spatially and/or temporally surrounding the current block; and inserting one or more of the averaged motion vector predictor candidates before one or more of the history-based motion vector predictor candidates in the list of motion vector predictor candidates.

    Abstract: The present principles relate to a method and device for gamut mapping from a first color gamut towards a second color gamut. The method comprises, in a plane of constant hue, mapping the chroma of the color from the first color gamut towards the second color gamut at constant lightness. The chroma mapping further comprises obtaining a target color on the second color gamut boundary wherein the lightness of the target color is greater than or equal to the lightness of a color of maximum chroma of the first color gamut and wherein the lightness of the target color is lower than the lightness of a color of maximum chroma of the second color gamut. In case where the lightness of the color is greater than the lightness of the target color, the chroma mapping comprises mapping at constant lightness the chroma of a color on the first color gamut boundary by a decreasing function of chroma applied to lightness, wherein the respective outputs of the decreasing function applied to the lightness of the target color and to the lightness of the white are the chroma of the target color and the chroma of the white.

    Abstract: A video encoder or decoder processes portions of video using intra coding and with variable block shapes. Under the general aspects, intra prediction directions are adapted to the block shape or aspect ratio. The general aspects described adaptively replace several conventional angular intra prediction modes with wide-angle intra prediction modes for non-square blocks. The total number of angular directions for any block can remain the same as in prior video coding standards or can be reduced or expanded. To keep the same number of prediction directions, directions along a shorter rectangular edge of a target block are removed but replaced with addition directions along the longer edge of the rectangular target block. For directions with wide angles, reference sample smoothing is performed. Signaling can be provided to inform a corresponding decoder regarding the prediction modes and directions.

    Abstract: Video signal coding and decoding functions can generate lists of potential candidates to use in coding and decoding, for example, predictors. Video signal coding component candidates undergo operations before potential inclusion in candidate lists. The candidates are checked after being modified by the operations to see if other equal candidates are already in the candidate are added to the candidate list. If equal candidates are already in the list, the modified candidates are not added to the list. Operations that can be performed comprise rounding and clipping.

    Abstract: A video encoder or decoder processes portions of video using virtual temporal affine motion candidates. Under the general aspects, virtual temporal affine candidates are created using only the classical temporal motion buffer information, avoiding the storage of additional affine parameters in a temporal motion buffer. A motion field for encoding or decoding a video block is generated based on the virtual temporal affine candidates. In one embodiment, collocated motion candidates are rescaled by adjusting the picture order count of the determined motion field. In another embodiment, resolution adaptation is performed to enable a current motion buffer to correspond to a reference motion buffer.

    Abstract: Methods and apparatus enable video coding and decoding related to omnidirectional video, such as stereo omnidirectional video with equirectangular projections. For stereo images of a scene, the video image data is portioned, resampled and arranged so that portions representing both images are able to fit within a frame. A message is sent with the frame to describe either the resampling or arrangement information. In at least one embodiment, the resampling is done horizontally. In at least one embodiment, the message is sent within a Supplemental Enhancement Information message. Corresponding operations reverse the process at a decoder, enabling the two stereo images to be recreated.

    Abstract: A method for generating a fourth color transform is disclosed, wherein said fourth color transform transforms an original picture into a target color graded version of said original picture. The method comprises obtaining a first color transform wherein said first (reference) color transform transforms said original picture into a first color graded version of said original picture; obtaining a second (reference) color transform wherein said second color transform transforms said original picture to a second color graded version of said original picture; obtaining a third (exemplary) color transform wherein said third color transform transforms said original picture to said target color graded version of said original picture; obtaining at least one interpolating parameter wherein the fourth color transform is close to or representative of the third color transform (exemplary) and the fourth color transform is obtained by applying a parametric function determined by the at least one interpolating parameter to the first color transform and second color transform. In a variant, the at least one interpolating parameter is obtained by minimizing an error between the third color transform and the fourth color transform.

    Abstract: A method for encoding a picture block is disclosed. A predictor is determined as a weighted sum of sample values of a first motion compensated reference block in a first reference image and of a second motion compensated reference block in a second reference image. Then, a residual block determined from the picture block and the predictor is encoded in a bitstream. Advantageously, the weights of the weighted sum are determined by minimizing an error between reconstructed samples neighboring the picture block and samples neighboring the first and second reference blocks.

    Abstract: A system and methods is provided for performing, by a processor, an initial tone mapping function on a first image to produce a second image. The first and second images are of different dynamic ranges. The method also includes applying, by the processor, a second tone mapping function to the second image when it contains any saturated portions. The second tone mapping function lowers luminance by a first fraction. The overall luminance of the second image is also determined and a fine tuning filter is applied when at least portions of said second image contain areas darker than an amount.
