Abstract:
An electronic circuit for providing a high voltage alternating current supply from a DC supply to an electroluminescent lamp. The circuit includes an inductive element and an output switching element arranged in series. The output switching element is operable to alternate, in use, between a first state and a second state, whereby in the first state a current path is provided through the inductive element and the output switching element, which current path is interrupted in the second state, such that when the output switching element changes from the first state to the second state, the inductive element generates a voltage at an output of the circuit for charging the electroluminescent lamp. The circuit includes an output diode arranged to prevent current flowing back from the output while the output switching element is in the first state.
Abstract:
An amplifier/power supply for an engine valve actuator includes a pair of switches for operating an actuator coil in several modes from a low voltage power supply. A higher magnitude voltage is regeneratively created using the inductance of the actuator coil and selective actuation of the switches.

A medical undergarment comprises a waistband configured to be worn on a waist of a man, a front panel connectable to a front region of the waistband and comprising an inner opening, an adjustable strap connecting the front panel to a rear region of the waistband, an absorbent cup comprising an absorbent material, receivable in the inner opening of the front panel, and configured to contain and absorb urine, and a fastener configured to removably connect the front panel to the front region of the waistband.
Abstract:
A display including an electroluminescent layer, a liquid crystal layer, and a first electrode and a second electrode arranged such that the electroluminescent layer and the liquid crystal layer are disposed between the first and second electrodes and arranged to apply an electric field across both the electroluminescent layer and the liquid crystal layer.
Abstract:
An upright surface treating appliance includes a main body having a user operable handle, and a support assembly for allowing the appliance to be rolled along a surface using the handle. The support assembly includes a yoke pivotably connected to the main body, and a pair of domed-shaped wheels rotatably connected to the yoke. A surface treating head is connected to the yoke. The yoke is shaped so that a section of the yoke is located between the rims of the wheels. To afford a compact appearance to the appliance, the outer surfaces of the wheels and the section of the yoke together at least partially delimit a substantially spherical volume.
Abstract:
A computer implemented method of improving the performance of a viral marketing program comprises exposing, via a computer network, a first offered incentive to a first plurality of users. A first consumer viral marketing action is to be completed to receive the first incentive. First data indicative of the first plurality of users' progress toward achieving the first action is collected thereby providing a likelihood of the first incentive obtaining an objective. A second incentive is exposed to a second plurality of users. A second consumer viral marketing action is to be completed to receive the second incentive. Second data indicative of the second plurality of users' progress toward achieving the second marketing action is collected thereby providing a likelihood of the second incentive obtaining the objective. The first and second data is compared using a metric to identify which incentive is more likely to obtain the objective.
Abstract:
A heat sink for a handheld device is formed as a one piece chassis for supporting heat-producing circuits inside the device while having heat radiating surfaces outside the device. In another embodiment a battery pack control circuit under microprocessor control allows battery packs having different battery chemistries and characteristics to be interchanged in the same device without switches or adapters. Control of operating modes of the device despite changes in the battery pack including battery chemistry, state of charge, available voltage, or desired operating mode are automatic. The microprocessor measures the battery pack characteristics, using look up tables in a suitable program to adjust the circuit operating modes. The microprocessor also responds to sequential switch contact closures in setting operating modes.
