    Abstract: Carbazole compounds of formula (I) are disclosed, which are useful as photoconductors for electrophotography and fluorescent brightening agent in the field of paints, ##STR1## wherein R represents a C.sub.2.about.4 alkyl group, or a benzyl group; X.sup.1 represents hydrogen, a C.sub.1.about.4 alkyl group, a C.sub.1.about.4 alkoxyl group, a halogen atom, a nitro group, an amino group, a C.sub.1.about.4 alkylamino group or a benzylamino group; and n is an integer 1 or 2.
