Abstract: An active-pulse blood analysis system has an optical sensor that illuminates a tissue site with multiple wavelengths of optical radiation and outputs sensor signals responsive to the optical radiation after attenuation by pulsatile blood flow within the tissue site. A monitor communicates with the sensor signals and is responsive to arterial pulses within a first bandwidth and active pulses within a second bandwidth so as to generate arterial pulse ratios and active pulse ratios according to the wavelengths. An arterial calibration curve relates the arterial pulse ratios to a first arterial oxygen saturation value and an active pulse calibration curve relates the active pulse ratios to a second arterial oxygen saturation value. Decision logic outputs one of the first and second arterial oxygen saturation values based upon perfusion and signal quality.

Abstract: Aspects of the present disclosure include a sensor configured to store in memory indications of sensor use information and formulas or indications of formulas for determining the useful life of a sensor from the indications of sensor use information. A monitor connected to the sensor monitors sensor use and stores indications of the use on sensor memory. The monitor and/or sensor compute the useful life of the sensor from the indications of use and the formulas. When the useful life of the sensor is reached, an indication is given to replace the sensor.

Abstract: System and methods are provided for augmented reality displays for medical and physiological monitoring. Augmented reality user interfaces are virtually pinned to a physical device, a location, or to a patient. An augmented reality position determination process determines the presentation of user interfaces relative to reference positions and reference objects. Detection of gestures causes the augmented reality users interfaces to be updated, such as pinning a user interface to a device, location, or patient. Looking away from an augmented reality user interface causes the user interface to minimize or disappear in an augmented reality display. An augmented reality gesture detection process determines gestures based on captured image data and computer vision techniques performed on the image data.

Abstract: A physiological trend monitor has a sensor signal responsive to multiple wavelengths of light transmitted into a tissue site. The transmitted light is detected after attenuation by pulsatile blood flow within the tissue site. A processor has an input responsive to the sensor signal and a physiological parameter output. Features are extracted from the physiological parameter output. Criteria are applied to the features. An alarm output is generated when the criteria are satisfied.

Abstract: The present disclosure includes a host device that is part of a patient monitoring system. The host device can provide an improved, organized, uncluttered, and graphically-rich display that presents an integrated display of real-time patient data and alarms from multiple integrated or non-integrated devices, such as patient monitors, ventilators, anesthesia gas machines, or intravenous (IV) pumps. The host device may provide a supplementary display for the patient data collected by the multiple devices and present information, such as comprehensive real-time patient status, historical trends, or alarm indicators, in an organized manner for particular clinical scenarios. The one or more displays can be central to a care team for a patient, and the care team can together simultaneously view and act upon the information presented.

Abstract: A medical communication protocol translator can be configured to facilitate communication between medical devices that are programmed to communicate with different protocol formats. The medical communication protocol translator can receive an input message formatted according to a first protocol format from a first medical device and to output an output message formatted according to a second protocol format supported by a second medical device using a set of translation rules. For example, a medical communication protocol translator can receive an input message from a hospital information system formatted according to a first HL7 protocol format and output an output message formatted according to a second HL7 protocol format based on a comparison with the set of translation rules.

Abstract: Systems and methods described herein use pairing to associate a wireless sensor with a patient monitoring device such as a bedside patient monitor or a mobile device. A signal emitted by a patient monitoring device can be detected by a wireless sensor. The wireless sensor can be associated with the detected signal and pair the wireless sensor with the patient monitoring device. The wireless sensor can be configured to enter into a patient parameter sensing mode of operation after the association of the wireless sensor with the patient monitoring device.

Abstract: A patient monitor can noninvasively measure a physiological parameter using sensor data from a nose sensor configured to be secured to a nose of the patient. The nose sensor can include an emitter and a diffuser. The diffuser is configured to generate a signal when detecting light attenuated by the nose tissue of the patient. An output measurement of the physiological parameter can be determined based on the signals generated by the diffuser.

Abstract: A method of determining blood pressure measurements includes inflating a cuff, receiving an indication of pressure inside the cuff during inflation, determining a blood pressure based at least in part on the received indication, assigning a confidence level to the blood pressure, and determining whether the confidence level satisfies a threshold confidence level. Based at least on a determination that the confidence level satisfies a threshold confidence level, the method can include causing a display to display the blood pressure. Based at least on a determination that the confidence level does not satisfy a threshold confidence level, the method can include deflating the cuff, receiving an indication of pressure inside the cuff during deflation, determining another blood pressure, and causing a display to display a blood pressure.
