    摘要: A drive roll/idler roll nip release mechanism utilizes the motor used for the drive nip, coupled with one-way clutches, to power the nip release as a sheet is handed off to a downstream nip. A drive shaft is coupled to a first one-way clutch in one direction and an idler cam shaft is coupled to a second one-way clutch in the opposite direction. This allows the idler cam shaft to be driven only when the motor is reversed, and the drive shaft to be driven only when the motor is moving forward. The one-way clutch on the drive shaft allows the drive wheels to freewheel when the motor is reversed in order to engage the nip release. Thus, the nip release is activated while the drive nip continues to rotate in the direction of sheet motion.

    摘要: A printing apparatus comprises a plurality of substantially identical modules forming a common sheet path. Each module includes an image receptor, a supply of marking material of a predetermined type, and a marking engine for creating an image of marking material on the sheet. Within each module a transport receives a sheet, moves the sheet to receive the image from the marking engine, and makes the sheet available for printing by a subsequent module in the sheet path. A sheet sensing system within each module detects a position of the sheet and uses that information to adjust the position of the image to be transferred to the sheet.

    摘要: In a lateral sheet shifting system, wherein sheets are fed from a sheet input to a sheet output with controlled shifting transversely of the process direction, there is a pivotal arcuate sheet path defining baffle unit providing an arcuate sheet-feeding path between the input and output. This arcuate baffle unit is mounted for pivotal angular movement laterally of the process direction by a controllable automatic variable angle pivoting system to form a variable sheet spiraling path therein. The arcuate baffle unit may be generally "S" or "U" shaped, and may be defined by, or consist solely of, opposing relatively closely spaced similarly arcuate baffles, such as at least two operatively connecting but oppositely facing generally quarter-cylindrical sections which can provide sheet side shifting without introducing any sheet skewing. The sheets in the baffle unit need not be engaged by any sheet feeding rollers therein, and the sheet input and output can be simple conventional fixed rollers on fixed axes. The sheet input and output may be co-linear but at different vertical levels. This entire sheet side shifting system can be a small, short paper path, modular unit provided internally or externally of a reproduction apparatus, such as interconnecting to a finisher with a laterally different paper path.

A request is communicated to and read by the controller. In response to such reading, the one or more produced prints are delivered to one or more print receiving bins in one or more of the first, second and third print receiving bin sets.

    摘要: In a sheet stacking system for stacking plural sheets from a printed sheets output path into at least one sheet stacking tray, including a stack height sensor for detecting the height of the stack of sheets in the tray and controlling a stacking control system; the stack height sensor has an elongated maximum stack height sensing bar, and a sensing bar movement system for intermittently moving the maximum stack height sensing bar into the tray in an operative measurement position on top of the stack of sheets in the tray at a position transversely of the sheet entrance path, with a normal force pressing downwardly against the top of the stack. The stack height sensing bar in this position extends across the top of the stack at the height of the highest level of any portion of the stack, in particular, overlying the sets stapling area. A sensing system is actuated by the height of the stack height sensing bar in this measurement position to provide signals to the stacking control system, which provides a control signal when the maximum stack height in the sheet entrance path to said sheet stacking tray reaches a height which is preset below the height which would obstruct the sheet entrance path. This sensor system can move, to measure several bins, and can also provide a sheet knockdown function.
