Abstract: Embodiments are directed to a speaker system that contains an array of multiple dispersion drivers that creates an expansive acoustic pattern to playback multi-channel audio content through a standalone speaker. The speaker system comprises an interface receiving stereo audio; an upmixer generating surround sound formatted audio from the stereo audio including one or more height channels; a virtualizer/downmixer component coupled to the upmixer and generating speaker feeds for two or more loudspeaker output sections, configured to play back the stereo audio, wherein each output section is further configured to play its own dedicated stereo audio signals; and a set of drivers each coupled to a respective output section and configured to project sound in at least two different dispersion patterns.

Abstract: In an audio encoder, for audio content received in a source audio format, default gains are generated based on a default dynamic range compression (DRC) curve, and non-default gains are generated for a non-default gain profile. Based on the default gains and non-default gains, differential gains are generated. An audio signal comprising the audio content, the default DRC curve, and differential gains is generated. In an audio decoder, the default DRC curve and the differential gains are identified from the audio signal. Default gains are re-generated based on the default DRC curve. Based on the combination of the re-generated default gains and the differential gains, operations are performed on the audio content extracted from the audio signal.

Abstract: Volume leveler controller and controlling method are disclosed. In one embodiment, A volume leveler controller includes an audio content classifier for identifying the content type of an audio signal in real time; and an adjusting unit for adjusting a volume leveler in a continuous manner based on the content type as identified. The adjusting unit may configured to positively correlate the dynamic gain of the volume leveler with informative content types of the audio signal, and negatively correlate the dynamic gain of the volume leveler with interfering content types of the audio signal.

Abstract: Embodiments are directed to a virtual height filter for use with or in an upward-firing speaker system that reflects sound off a ceiling to a listening location at a distance from a speaker, and that provides height cues to reproduce audio objects that have overhead audio components. A virtual height filter based on a directional hearing model is applied to the upward-firing driver signal to improve the perception of height for audio signals transmitted by the virtual height speaker to provide optimum reproduction of the overhead reflected sound. The virtual height filter is provided by any one or combination of analog or digital filter circuits, or mechanical structures including speaker grill, enclosure, or driver design or configuration.

Abstract: In an apparatus configured to perform signal processing on audio data of a first sampling rate, methods disclosed herein comprise receiving audio data of a second sampling rate, the second sampling rate being higher than the first sampling rate. The methods comprise applying filtering to the audio data of the second sampling rate to thereby produce first filtered audio data and second filtered audio data, the first filtered audio data comprising mainly component frequencies which are audible to the human ear, the second filtered audio data comprising mainly components frequencies which are substantially inaudible to the human ear. The methods further comprise applying first signal processing to the first filtered audio data; and applying second signal processing to the second filtered audio data, the second signal processing having a lower computational complexity than the first signal processing. Corresponding apparatus and computer readable media are also disclosed herein.

Abstract: In some embodiments, a method for processing an audio signal in an audio processing apparatus is disclosed. The method includes receiving an audio signal and a parameter, the parameter indicating a location of an auditory event boundary. An audio portion between consecutive auditory event boundaries constitutes an auditory event. The method further includes applying a modification to the audio signal based in part on an occurrence of the auditory event. The parameter may be generated by monitoring a characteristic of the audio signal and identifying a change in the characteristic.

Abstract: A system and method of modifying a binaural signal using headtracking information. The system calculates a delay, a first filter response, and a second filter response, and applies these to the left and right components of the binaural signal according to the headtracking information. The system may also apply headtracking to parametric binaural signals. In this manner, headtracking may be applied to pre-rendered binaural audio.
