摘要: This invention allows super-resolution reproduction with which a better bER value is attainable, when information is recorded by a random pattern including a mark length not longer than a resolution limit, by use of a highly versatile signal decoding method.Information is recorded as marks and spaces coded by RLL(1,7) modulation, which each of the marks and spaces have one of a plurality of lengths, and 2T marks and 2T spaces of the marks and spaces being formed are shorter than 0.12 μm. An information recording layer (20) includes a reproduction film (21) and a reflective film (22) which are provided in this order from a side from which reproducing light is incident, which reproduction film is made of (i) zinc oxide, (ii) strontium titanate, (iii) titanium oxide, (iv) cerium oxide, or (v) a material including at least one of the (i) through (iv), and which reflective film is made of tantalum or titanium.

摘要: In an information recording area of a disc-shaped magnetic recording medium, recording columns adjacent to each other relative to a radial direction are formed so as to partially overlap with each other in the radial direction. Each recording column has an overlapping portion which partially overlaps with either of the adjacent recording columns in the radial direction, and a non-overlapping portion which does not overlap with any of the recording columns in the radial direction.

摘要: A magnetic sensing section is constituted by a magneto-resistive device in which a fixed magnetization layer, a non-magnetic layer, and a magnetization-free layer are deposited in that order on a first buffer layer that is deposited on a magnetic layer. A second buffer layer sandwiches the magnetic sensing section, and a biasing layer which covers right and left sides of the magnetic sensing section. The second buffer layer is deposited on the magnetic layer with a nonconductor layer interposed therebetween. A near field light generation section constituted by a second magnetic layer, a dielectric layer, and a metal layer is formed on a surface of the second buffer layer not adjacent to the nonconductor layer. The resultant magnetic sensor device can efficiently perform photo-assisted reproduction of information from a magnetic recording medium using a magnetic reproduction head or a magnetic reproducer.

摘要: A method of the present invention for forming fine particles includes forming fine particles on a substrate by supplying, in the presence of inert gas, to the substrate, atoms or molecules of a supply material capable of being combined with a material constituting a surface of the substrate to produce a compound, the atoms or the molecules being supplied from a supply source. The supply source is positioned in such a manner as not to be directly connected by a line with the surface of the substrate where the fine particles are to be formed, and a high-frequency voltage varying positively and negatively, ranging from 100 kHz to 100 MHz, is applied to at least one of the substrate and a substrate supporter for supporting the substrate. This realizes a method for forming fine particles that allows forming highly uniformed magnetic fine particles with a periodic pattern through a simple process at a time.

摘要: In an optical information storage medium reproduction apparatus (10) for reproducing an optical information storage medium including a plurality of information recording layers each including a recording mark having a length shorter than an optical system resolution limit, reproduction laser power for reading an information recording layer closest to a reproduction-laser-incident surface of the optical information storage medium is set to be lower than reproduction laser power for reading an information recording layer farthest from the reproduction-laser-incident surface but not lower than minimum reproduction laser power that satisfies a reproduction signal characteristic that the optical information storage medium reproduction apparatus (10) requires. With the arrangement, it is possible to prevent that the information recording layer closest to the reproduction-laser-incident surface is irradiated wrongly with reproduction laser having high reproduction laser power, thereby making it possible to obtain successful reproduction quality. That is, it is possible to realize the optical information storage medium reproduction apparatus (10) that can set optimum reproduction laser power and perform stable super resolution reproduction.
