    摘要: Apparatus and methods for use in a wireless communication system are disclosed for determining a timing position for channel activity in order to resolve timing ambiguity. A disclosed apparatus includes a processor that determines when channel activity occurs in at least one of an early or a late arrival position in a communication channel estimate and unwraps the channel activity in either the early arrival position or the late arrival position to a corresponding late or early arrival unwrapped channel activity position in the wireless channel estimate. The processor correlates symbol data in the communication signal corresponding to both the channel activity and the unwrapped channel activity to symbol data of the main channel activity. The processor determines whether a correct timing position of the channel activity is one of the early or late arrival positions based on the correlations, thus resolving timing ambiguity. Complementary methods are also disclosed.

    摘要: Methods and apparatus for constructing a pilot symbol for a communication frame transmitted in a wireless communication system, such as an OFDM system, are disclosed. In particular, the methods and apparatus generate at least one pseudo-random noise sequence having at least a predetermined length, where the at least one pseudo-random noise sequence represents a system configuration of a wireless system. A time domain symbol sequence is modulated with the at least one pseudo-random noise sequence to create a timing acquisition pilot symbol. The modulated acquisition pilot symbol is further masked to a prescribed frequency profile and placed in a frame for wireless transmission. Accordingly, different system configurations can be communicated from a transmitter to a receiver with the acquisition pilot symbol modulated with correspondingly different pseudo-random noise sequences, while affording low complexity required to process the acquisition pilot symbol and a minimum peak to average power ratio when using QPSK modulation.

    摘要: A method, computer program product, and apparatus for obtaining a digital temperature reading from within an integrated circuit. In a preferred embodiment, a temperature-stable constant current source is applied to a tapped series of resistors to obtain a set of stable reference voltages. These reference voltages are fed into an analog multiplexer, which selects a single reference voltage to output to a comparator. A PTAT (proportional to absolute temperature) voltage signal is also applied to the comparator, so that the output of the comparator indicates a comparison between the selected reference voltage and the PTAT signal. A digital temperature reading is obtained by using finite-state control to apply test values to the multiplexer in order to search for a value corresponding to a reference voltage that is closest to the value of the PTAT signal. The value that is found is a digital representation of the temperature.

    摘要: The subject invention selects a starting sub-carrier frequency group for a pilot staggering sequence to facilitate in mitigating the possibility of pilot signal collisions. In one embodiment, a randomized starting sub-carrier frequency group of the pilot is utilized in a first orthogonal frequency division multiplexing (OFDM) symbol of a frame. In another embodiment, a starting pilot sub-carrier frequency group number is determined by utilizing a random number generator such as, for example, a Pseudo-Noise (PN) sequence generator, seeded by a network identification (ID) number. In this manner, the starting sub-carrier frequency group is specific to that particular network. The subject invention also provides a more scalable system through the trading of system bandwidth for coverage.

    摘要: An apparatus, a method, and a computer program are provided to gate a Phased Locked Loop (PLL). In microprocessors, the clock distribution system can account for a substantial amount of power consumption. Gating the PLLs, however, has been difficult because of the usual requirement for a separate clock for control logic and because the PLL requires timed to reacquire phase/frequency lock. Therefore, lock detection logic can be employed to allow the PLL to reacquire phase/frequency lock. Additionally, signals from external devices and the processor can be employed to gate the PLL and allow the processor to be awakened without a need for a separate clock.
