摘要: An optical space switch is used in a centralized switching system for an optical network and connects light from one of a number of inputs (1) to a selected one of a number of outputs (6). The switch includes a number of multiplexed phase volume holograms (4), a spatial light modulator (3) for imposing a selected phase change on light passing through it, distribution means (2) for coupling light from the inputs (1) via the spatial light modulator (3) to the multiplexed phase volume holograms (4), and collection means (5) for collecting light diffracted by the multiplexed phase volume holograms (4). Each multiplexed phase volume hologram (4) diffracts light to a selected output (6) in dependence upon the phase change imposed by the spatial light modulator (3) on the light incident upon that hologram (4).

摘要: The encased product of the present invention comprises an elongated flexible casing cylindrically shaped substantially along its length and having opposite end closures. A product material fills the cavity formed by the flexible casing and maintains the casing in a cylindrical shape. The cylindrical casing is formed from an elongated strip of flexible material having opposite side edges, the strip being formed into a plurality of helical revolutions with the side edges of the strip within each one of the helical revolutions frictionally overlapping and engaging the side edges within adjacent helical revolutions of the strip. The product is formed by continuously applying an elongated flexible ribbon to the outer cylindrical surface of a stuffing tube at a canted angle with respect to the longitudinal axis of the tube and rotating the flexible ribbon at the point where it is applied to the stuffing tube so that it will wrap around the tube in a plurality of helical revolutions to form a cylindrical casing on the tube. The adjacent edges of the helical revolutions of the ribbon are frictionally overlapped to one another so as to form a cylindrical casing and product is forced through the tube from the rearward end to the discharge end and into the cylindrical casing. The stuffing tube may be a rotating stuffing tube or it may be a stationary stuffing tube. A ribbon feed device is provided for feeding a continuous strip of ribbon to the stuffing tube.

摘要: A method for producing a porous plastic molded product of uniform, predictable porosity throughout. A fluidized airstream of moldable plastic powder is formed. Water may be injected into said fluidized powder airstream for maintaining said powder in a uniform, fluidized dispersion. The moisturized, fluidized, powder airstream is injected into a cavity of a closed mold to fill said mold cavity with said powder. The mold is maintained at a temperature and for a time sufficient to at least partially fuse said powder particles together without melting said particles, thereby to form a porous, plastic molded product. The mold is partially separated for cooling the product which is then discharged from the mold. The product may be further cured by heating the molded product in an oven at a temperature and for a time sufficient to cure said molded product without melting said plastic or glazing said product.

摘要: An ink drop printing system for use as part of a duplicator. Sheets which are to be printed by the printing system are fed from one or another of two separate paper supplies and delivered along downwardly converging delivery paths toward a common reception point on a printing transport. The printing transport carries the sheets along a printing path which is angled upwardly and folded back from the delivery paths toward the common reception point. While the sheets are carried upwardly by the printing transport, they are printed by a plurality of inclined, angularly extending, and cooperatively operated jet drop printing heads.

摘要: A sheet feeding device for separating a single sheet from a stack of sheets and forwarding the separated sheet away from the stack is disclosed which employs an endless friction belt cantilevered about a drive pulley such that the unsupported end of the belt floats freely on a stack of documents or paper sheets when the belt is in the feeding position. As the belt is driven about the pulley the unsupported end of the belt pulls and advances the foremost sheet from the stack and advances it over a retard member on which the unsupported end of the belt also floats. Because the belt floats freely on the stack of sheets, the normal force is evenly distributed over the surface of the belt, intersheet coupling is minimized, and the belt is able to conform to changes in the paper and stack condition.
