    摘要: A magnetoresistive head including a magnetoresistive element, and two shield layers sandwiching the magnetoresistive element. The magnetoresistive element includes an antiferromagnetic layer a pinned layer in exchange coupling with the antiferromagnetic layer, a free layer whose magnetization rotates or switches according to a media magnetic field, and an intermediate layer between the free layer and the pinned layer. The intermediate layer includes magnetic grains surrounded by an insulator. The magnetic grains connect the free layer and the pinned layer by means of a nano contact. The free layer is oversized with respect to the pinned layer and the intermediate layer which are distanced from a media side end of the shield layers.

    摘要: A reader of a magnetoresistive head includes a spin valve with sensor having a stabilizing hard bias and side shield at the side of the sensor, to substantially reduce the undesired flux from adjacent bits and tracks. At least one free layer is spaced apart from at least one pinned layer by a spacer. Above the free layer, a capping layer is provided. The stabilizer may include an insulator, a soft material that is a shielding layer, a decoupling layer, and a hard bias. As a result, the free layer is shielded from the undesired flux of adjacent tracks, and recording media having substantially smaller track size and bit size can be used.

    摘要: An in-stack bias is provided for stabilizing the free layer of a magneto-resistive sensor. More specifically, a stabilizer layer provided above a free layer has a tilted magnetization. As a result of this tilt, the interlayer coupling between the free layer and the pinned layer is reduced, and the related art hysteresis and asymmetry problems are substantially overcome. Additionally, a method of tilting the stabilizer layer of the in-stack bias is also provided, including a method of annealing using annealing temperature differentials and magnetic field directions.

    摘要: An in-stack bias is provided for stabilizing the free layer of a ballistic magneto resistive (BMR) sensor. In-stack bias includes a decoupling layer that is a spacer between the free layer and a ferromagnetic stabilizer layer of the in-stack bias, and an anti-ferromagnetic layer positioned above the ferromagnetic layer. The spacer is a nano-contact layer having magnetic particles positioned in a non-magnetic matrix. The free layer may be single layer, composed or synthetic, and the in-stack bias may be laterally bounded by the sidewalls, or alternatively, extend above the sidewalls and spacer. Additionally, a hard bias may also be provided. The spacer of the in-stack bias results in the reduction of the exchange coupling between the free layer and ferromagnetic stabilizing layer, an improved AΔR due to confinement of current flow through a smaller area, and increased MR due to the domain wall created within the magnetic nano-contact.

    摘要: A read/write head includes a slider provided with an electromagnetic transducer element (or an optical module), an actuator, and a suspension. The actuator includes a fixed part, a movable part, and at least two beam members for coupling them together. The beam members have a displacement generating means that elongates and contracts by inverse piezoelectric effect or electrostrictive effect. The fixed part is fixed to the suspension, and the movable part is fixed to the slider. Upon the elongation and contraction of the displacement generator, the displacement generator deflects and the movable part displaces linearly, circularly or rotationally with respect to the fixed part, and the electromagnetic transducer element displaces in a linear or circular orbit, so that the electromagnetic transducer element intersects recording tracks. In the actuator, the fixed part, movable part and beam members are formed as an integrated single piece by providing a hole and/or a cutout in a sheet-like member constructed of a piezoelectric or electrostrictive material. The actuator of the structure illustrated is used for the positioning of a direction intersecting recording tracks. In this case, the total sum of voltages applied on the displacement generating means is controlled in such a manner that it is constant at any time, thereby controlling position fluctuations of the electromagnetic transducer element in the direction vertical to the recording medium surface.
