    摘要: A radio communication system includes a primary station which is arranged to transmit a series of data packets to a secondary station which operates according to an ARQ scheme for acknowledging correct reception of each packet. The primary station transmits error correction information relating to any packets that are not received correctly, thereby enabling the secondary station to extract correctly the data. The data packets are transmitted via a plurality of logical channels, so that an error in transmission of one packet does not hold up transmission of packets in other channels. Transfer of data transmission from one primary station to another is done by transferring each channel when correct reception of a data packet on that channel has been acknowledged, thereby avoiding the extra signaling required in transferring logical channels in which a data packet has been received in error and the error correction transmissions have not been completed.

The resolution may be adjusted by altering the over-sampling rate and/or selecting the number of quantization levels to handle the prevailing interference and the wanted signal.

The coder also includes circuitry for deriving an excitation sequence which can be used to synthesize an approximation to the analogue signal. The circuitry for deriving a long term coefficient derives a plurality of sums of products of samples of the digitized signal and interpolates the sums of products. The long term correlation coefficient is derived from the interpolated plurality of sums of products with fractional resolution and reduced computational complexity.

    摘要: A signal equalizing arrangement comprises a decision feedback equalizer formed by a feedforward filter section (16) connected to a feedback filter section (18) which includes a decision stage (20). If the performance of the equalizing arrangement as determined by the signal to noise ratio versus the bit error rate is found to be below the calculated optimum performance of the decision feedback equalizer, then an improved performance may be obtained by operating the equalizer in a time reverse mode. In order to operate the equalizer in a time reverse mode, a first last-in, first-out store (60) is connected in the signal path to the feedforward filter section (16) and a second last-in, first-out store (62) is connected to the output of the decision stage (20).

    摘要: In a radio communication system (100, 200) using a channel divided into a plurality of time slots, a control signal is transmitted in each time slot and a data signal is transmitted intermittently using a subset of the time slots. The control signal includes a portion which is a predetermined signal, such as a pilot signal, and one or more bits constituting a power control command. The format of the control signal is adapted according to whether or not data is transmitted in the same time slot. When data is not being transmitted, the proportion of the control signal which constitutes a power control command is increased and the energy of the control signal is reduced, at least by reducing the energy of the predetermined signal portion.
