    摘要: The present invention displays subtitles in a language desired by a user in a desired format. A text data decoder 121 decodes text subtitle data, supplies a character object to a character object buffer 122, and supplies attribute data to an attribute data buffer 123. The attribute data stored in the attribute data buffer 123 is changed on the basis of an operation input from the user. A font rasterizer 124 converts the character object into raster data on the basis of attribute specification read from the attribute data buffer 123 and acquired font data, and outputs the raster data. By detecting each character object bearing a bookmark on the basis of the attribute and using a bookmark buffer 125, character objects bearing the same bookmark ID are prevented from being repeatedly rasterized. The present invention is applicable to a playback apparatus.

    摘要: For a large capacity recording medium, a user interface having high flexibility and enriched representation is accomplished. A flag that represents whether a play item has a multiple angle structure of which the play item is reproduced with a plurality of angles is described. In addition, a flag that represents whether the beginning of each decode unit is an angle switchable point is described. In a seamless multiple angle structure, the current angle can be switched without need to increase the number of interleave units. In a nonseamless multiple angle structure, with the flag, in a predetermined region on the rear end side of each angle, the current angle is prohibited from being switched. Thus, when a play item exits from the multiple angle, discontinuity in the reproduction can be prevented. In addition, with a flag that represents whether a sub play item should be reproduced not in synchronization with a main path, the sub play item of only audio data can be used as a BGM.

A second video plane 50 for displaying a moving picture is added to planes 10, 11, and 12 for displaying a moving picture, a subtitle, and graphics, respectively. One of the outputs of the second video plane 50 and the video plane 10 is selected by a switch 51 on a pixel-by-pixel basis. Reduced moving picture data are stored on the second video plane 50. The switch 51 is controlled according to a display position of the reduced moving picture data on a pixel-by-pixel basis. As a result, reduced moving picture data of the second video plane 50 are displayed as a sub screen against the moving picture data of the video plane 10. When wallpaper picture data instead of the moving picture data are stored on the video plane 10, a display screen is obtained as if a wallpaper were displayed in the background of the reduced moving picture data.
