    摘要: A connector for use in a contaminated environment is provided. The connector includes first and second couplers which are coupled together to produce a fluid path through the connector. Prior to coupling of the first and second couplers, the first and second couplers include plastic caps for minimizing the contaminants on the couplers. Elastomer face seals which can be contaminated are mated against one another compressing to expel contaminants and trapping contaminants between the elastomer face seals. The elastomer face seals are captured between a pair of O-rings. Parts of the elastomer face seals are flushed with fluid as the connector is coupled to further reduce contamination. All internal passages and the elastomer face seals are treated with an antimicrobial compound. The connector vents to the atmosphere during engagement of the first and second couplers such that the connector can operate at a higher pressure with reduced engagement force.

    摘要: There are provided a male type connector (1), a protective cap (2), an inner cap (3) that supports a disinfectant-impregnated member therein and is retained in the protective cap, and a female type connector (4) in which an inner cylinder is fixed at an end of an outer cylinder, the inner cylinder including an internal end portion located inside the outer cylinder and an exposed external end portion. The inner cap includes engaging legs at each of which an engaging convexity is formed. A front end portion of the male type connector allows the engaging convexities at the engaging legs to engage therewith from inside. An inner cap retaining portion is formed on an inner wall surface of the protective cap, and a force exerted by the engagement between the inner cap and the male type connector is larger than a force exerted by the inner cap retaining portion to retain the inner cap. When the protective cap with the inner cap retained therein is fitted with the male type connector, and then is removed from the male type connector, the inner cap is retained in the male type connector and is detached from the protective cap. When the male type connector is connected with the female type connector, the internal end portion of the inner cylinder penetrates through the disinfectant-impregnated member, so that a channel is opened. When the connecting and detaching are repeated, the bacterial contamination can be reduced with a simple operation.

A piston is movable within the passage. The piston has an inlet side facing the first end of the body and an outlet side facing the second end of the body. Apertures through the piston fluidly connect the inlet side of the piston to the outlet side of the piston. A second fitting, having a fluid opening therethrough, is dimensioned to be slidably received within the space adjacent the second end of the fitting. The piston is movable into engagement with the second fitting with the apertures in the piston communicating with the fluid opening in the second fitting.

    摘要: An improved injection site (12) for infusion of parenteral fluids and the like is provided, having a pressure-actuated valve (20) and a novel split septum unit (24), which effectively prevent reflux of blood into the assembly (10). The septum unit (24) includes a resilient split septum body (64) which is precompressed so that the septum body (64) is caused to protrude proximally (78) upon insertion of a cannula (16). Consequently, upon removal of the cannula (16), there is essentially no “drumming” or creation of friction-induced negative pressures sufficient to generate blood reflux. The specialized well (46) and septum unit (24) afford a resilient seal between the periphery of the septum body (64) and the surface (50), and a separate hard-surface seal between the outer margin of the surface (50) and the septum holder (66).
