摘要:
A method and device are disclosed herein for distributing a gas into a vessel. The method comprises providing a gas distribution apparatus, wherein an exposed surface of the apparatus comprises a material that inhibits adsorption of the gas and deposition of the gas' solid form. The material chosen is chemically repulsive to the gas and the gas' solid form. In this manner, desublimation of the gas and deposition of the gas' solid form onto the exposed surface is prevented. The device disclosed herein is the gas distribution apparatus referenced above.

An oil scrub column having a petroleum spirit section and an oil section where each section has mass transfer trays having a plurality of runoff elements that extend parallel to and at a distance from one another, to form angular profiles. The runoff elements have first and second runoff surfaces that converge to form an edge. Scrubbing media introduced onto the edges of the runoff elements flows off via the runoff surfaces at both sides of the edge. The oil section has a greater number of mass transfer trays than the petroleum spirit section. The petroleum spirit section is shorter than the oil section. The mass transfer trays of the petroleum spirit section may be sieve trays, bubble trays or valve trays.

A downcomer apparatus for use in a multi-stage bubble column humidifier. The humidifier comprises at least a first, second and third stage, wherein each of said stages includes an inlet, an outlet and a chamber defined by said stage, in fluid communication with the inlet and the outlet. In the humidifier, a heated liquid fluid stream flowing downwardly exchanges mass and heat with a cooler carrier gas stream flowing upwardly through the bubble column. A bubble generator comprising a perforated plate, or sparger, passes the carrier gas, such as air, from a lower chamber to form bubbles in a fluid, such as water, forming a bath on an upper chamber. An off-set arrangement of downcomer apparatuses, wherein said apparatus comprises a funnel, a watergate, and a downcomer, is used to prevent a recirculation of humid bubbles from the upper chamber to the lower chamber, thus preventing the air stream from circumventing the bubble generator in the form of the humid bubbles. This arrangement assures the maximum possible performance of the humidifier, as the entire air stream is forced to move through the bubble column, thus maximizing the air-water surface interface for an efficient mass and heat exchange.

A humidification-dehumidification system comprises a source of liquid; a humidifier including carrier-gas and liquid inlets and outlets and a chamber in which the liquid can contact a carrier gas containing a condensable fluid in vapor phase that is introduced from the carrier-gas inlet in a counterflow arrangement and in which a portion of the liquid can vaporize into the carrier gas; a bubble-column vapor mixture condenser including at least first and second stages, each stage including a carrier-gas inlet and outlet and a chamber configured to contain a liquid bath in fluid communication with the carrier-gas inlet and the carrier-gas outlet; a conduit passing from the source of the liquid through the chamber of each stage of the bubble-column condenser; and an intermediate exchange conduit coupled with (a) the bubble-column vapor mixture condenser and (b) the humidifier chamber at intermediate stages of each for transfer of the carrier gas therebetween.
摘要:
In a bubble-column vapor mixture condenser, a fluid source supplies a carrier-gas stream including a condensable fluid in vapor phase. The condensable fluid in liquid form is contained as a bath in a chamber in each stage of the condenser, and the carrier gas is bubbled through the bath to condense the condensable fluid into the bath. Energy from condensation is recovered to a coolant in a conduit that passes through the liquid in the stages of the condenser. The bubble-column vapor mixture condenser can be used, e.g., in a humidification-dehumidification system for purifying a liquid, such as water.

An apparatus and method for attaching a dispersion valve to a fractionation tray surface. The valve is inserted into a fractionation tray perforation. At least two legs extend downward from a cover plate with a larger area than the perforation. Each of the legs is positioned at or near the peripheral inner surface of the tray perforation. Each leg has an outwardly projecting hooking element. As the valve is inserted into the fractionation tray perforation by pressure applied to the cover plate, the hooking elements bend inward slightly to a smaller circumferential plane than that of the tray perforation. After insertion, the flexible legs spring back to their original outwardly projection. The tip of each hooking element then contacts the bottom surface of the fractionation tray to define and limit the upward motion of the valve. At least one downward projection from the cover plate defines and limits the downward motion of the valve into the tray perforation.

A method of and apparatus for deentrainment and mass transfer in a chemical process tower. The apparatus comprises a structured packing layer assembled with a second type of packing layer disposed adjacent the underside of a process tower tray. The dual layer assembly reduces liquid entrainment in ascending vapor flow and provides an additional region for mass transfer.

A method and apparatus is provided for removing catalyst from a distillation column reactor and replacing the catalyst with fresh or regenerated catalyst. More specifically a small particulate catalyst is supported by wire mesh or screen or filter medium on trays in a conventional distillation column and substantially submerged by the liquid on the trays. The vapor rising through the liquid tends to keep the catalyst in suspension in the liquid. A draw-off is provided for each tray having catalyst supported thereon whereby liquid containing the suspended or slurried catalyst can be removed to a separator during operation. The catalyst is separated, as in a settling tank separator, from the liquid recycled to the tray until all the catalyst has been removed. The separated catalyst is removed for either regeneration or discarding. Fresh catalyst can then be added to the separator where it is slurried into the liquid again being recirculated from the tray. The trays can all be connected to the same separator/slurry mixer by the appropriate piping and manifolds.
