摘要: A method for manufacturing a decorative sheet from a metallic sheet comprises the steps of flame-spraying a coating material onto the surface of a metallic sheet to form a flame-sprayed layer thereon, and roughening the surface of the flame-sprayed layer. The surface of the metallic sheet may be etched in the shape of some pattern to form the flame-sprayed layer, and may be covered with at least one mask having a pattern opening which extends through the mask and has a pattern so as to form the pattern on the surface of the metallic sheet by flame-spraying of the coating material through the pattern opening of the mask.

摘要: Particulate material, which may be heat softened or liquified, or which may remain solid, is fed outside of an electrical heating zone for electric arc heating under pressure a continuous flow of heated gas, or outside of a combustion chamber producing high pressure, high temperature products of combustion, axially into the converging flow of the heated gas or products of combustion while entering a converging portion of a flow expansion nozzle having a nozzle bore of a length that is at least five times the diameter of the nozzle bore. This restricts the diameter of the column of particles passing through the nozzle bore to prevent build up of particle material on the nozzle bore, if molten or heat softened, while insuring sufficient dwell time within the bore to effect particle heat softening or melting, or if the particles are solid, to prevent abrasion of the nozzle bore wall by the particles while accelerating the particles to supersonic velocity.

摘要: Laterally "floating" thermal spray gun traversing apparatus and system for laterally tracking a revolving casting belt being thermal spray coated for applying uniformly spaced passes of thermal spraying on the revolving casting belt regardless of any lateral (edgewise) movements of the casting belt in either direction and regardless of any chamber in the edge of the belt. The thermal spray gun is traversed by a leadscrew and an adjustable speed drive for the leadscrew, both the leadscrew and its adjustable drive being carried by a frame mounted on a carriage freely movable along a trackway extending parallel to the axis of the leadscrew. A roller senses the lateral position of the edge of the revolving belt, and the carriage is moved by a source of motive power responsive to the sensed lateral position of the belt for causing the carriage together with the frame, leadscrew and leadscrew drive automatically to track the belt. This source of motive power is shown as a spring acting in a direction for urging the roller into contact with the edge of the revolving belt.

摘要: A repetitive combustion coating apparatus for applying coatings of particulate materials such as powdered tungsten carbide and other metal alloys by discharging discrete quantities of material encapsulated in an elongated tape into a combustion chamber and igniting a fuel-air mixture therein to deliver the charge of combustion gases and entrained particulate material through a nozzle to impact the article to be coated. The apparatus includes a rotary indexing wheel over which the encapsulated tape is trained with the spaced apart capsules nested in circumferentially spaced supporting receptacles. The indexing wheel is mounted on support arms which permit limited linear reciprocation so that a ratchet mechanism incrementally indexes the wheel and permits linear movement of the wheel to successively clamp the tape capsules against a clamping die. High pressure gas is introduced through a support spindle for the indexing wheel and internal passages in the wheel to burst a capsule and deliver a charge of particulate material into a combustion chamber. The indexing of the wheel is controlled by a detent mechanism to compensate for dimensional variations in the various structural parts of the apparatus. A control system provides a timed sequence of events to deliver a charge of fuel-air mixture to the combustion chamber as well as a charge of particulate material and ignition of the mixture.

摘要: A seal intended to wear from abrasion for use in contact with a rotor zone of a rotating machine, of the type made up of a dispersion of hollow microspheres in a binder providing cohesion of the microspheres among themselves and their attachment to a metallic support. In order to make it possible to produce the seal by torch spraying from a powdered mixture onto the support, the hollow microspheres are made of an inorganic refractory material and the binder material is a metallic material more fusible than the material of the microspheres.

摘要: Methods for applying grit containing abrasive coatings by plasma spray techniques are disclosed. Various concepts for obtaining good adherability of the coating to an underlying substrate and for maintaining angularity of the grit particles are discussed. The concepts employ simultaneous contact of the grit particles with matrix material at the surface of the substrate to be coated. In coating narrow substrates, the substrate is offset from the axis of the plasma stream discharging from the plasma gun.

摘要: Metallic patterns such as electrically conductive pathways are sprayed onto a metallic surface of a substrate by a high temperature flame spray process which process also is used to spray an intermediate layer of ceramic insulation onto the substrate. The patterns are formed in a template through which powdered electrically conductive material is sprayed by a spray gun and a low amperage alternating current of high voltage is applied between the substrate and the spray gun.
