    摘要: The invention concerns an automatic loader for gear shaving machines. The machine utilizes a rotary cutter which meshes with the gear to be shaved. The gear is brought into a shaving position by a loader having a moveable feed member including a first slide which moves in a vertical direction and a second slide which moves in a horizontal direction. The gear to be shaved is supported by a first end of a rocker arm. The rocker arm is centrally articulated about the first slide and is connected to a gas spring at its second end. When the gear approaches the rotary cutter but fails to mesh with it the rocker arm is angularly displaced and actuates an electronic switch. The switch controls the movement of the vertical and horizontal slides and readjusts the position of the gear until it successfully meshes with the rotary cutter.

    摘要: A positioning and alignment loader for a gear cutting machine adapted to receive cold formed toothed blanks, preferably of conical gear form, having differently conformed front and rear surfaces requiring positioning of the blank with a selected side up. The blanks are advanced along a chute and the position of the blank in the chute is sensed and if the blank is reversed, it is rotated 180.degree. before further advance. Thereafter the properly positioned blank with its proper selected side up is advanced horizontally and its teeth are located in proper angular position by engagement with a toothed orientor rack located at one side of the path of advance. The properly positioned blank with its teeth in substantially precise angular location is now engaged by a pick-up device which transfers the blank into a gear finishing machine in proper stock dividing position so that the machine may remove small, substantially equal amounts of stock from opposite sides of the teeth.

The worktable has a plurality of workpiece holding devices at equal angular intervals around the axis and uniformly spaced therefrom, each holding devices defining parallel to said principal axis a support axis for a workpiece to be held therein. A loading/unloading station and three work stations are positioned around the principal axes each work station including a grinding wheel. Table index device effects angular indexing of the table about said principal axis through a series of registered positions to bring the workpieces into precise register with the work stations in succession. Workpiece index device at each work station is selectively coupled to effect predetermined incremental indexing rotation of a workpiece to present preselected portions of the workpiece for engagement by the associated grinding wheel.

    摘要: A and machine for lapping hypoid gear pairs by a new method to provide improved tooth engagement characteristics, resulting in good sound qualities over a remarkably increased range of pinion axial adjustment in assembly. The method employs a plurality of special lapping cycles acting on the periphery of the gear teeth to achieve full control of tooth surface mismatch. The lapping machine controls backlash settings, set-overs, and all lapping motions with only three actuators, carries out the new method and achieves a versatility of lapping control far exceeding that available in prior art machines. A control panel provides an array of thumbwheel switches, graduated dials and selector switches for rapid entry of all lapping cycle control data, i.e., backlash, lapping motions and motion rates, number of passes, speeds and torques, all of these parameters being controlled independently for both forward and reverse sides of the teeth. The control panel also permits ready selection of alternative lapping methods including conventional one-cycle lapping methods as well as the novel multi-cycle methods disclosed herein. Stepping motors, responsive to data entered into the control panel, operate linear actuators to displace the gear spindle for effecting all lapping motions and relative gear-to-pinion displacements. The machine is designed with a vertically oriented pinion spindle to reduce floor space and to facilitate adaptation to full automation and is also designed with all relative lapping motions being accomplished by movement of the gear spindle on a unique support structure specially designed to simplify machine control functions.

    摘要: Generating tooth profiles with a cutter having cutting edges which move about a common cutter axis, the workpiece also being rotated about an axis, the workpiece and cutter undergoing relative movement along a path, cutter and workpiece having basic rates of movement about their respective axes, with one of the basic rates being increased or decreased by a differential rate depending upon the rate of said relative movement, so that for each desired tooth profile the cutting edges will make a series of cuts tangent to the desired profile at a succession of lines, the basic rates of movement of the cutting edges and the workpiece about their respective axes having a ratio dependent on the ratio of the number of teeth in the gear to the number of cutting edges so that each edge will make a cut tangent to a desired profile as the latter passes across the path of movement of the respective cutting edge and so that between successive cuts tangent to any one desired profile there intervenes complete revolution of the workpiece.
