Abstract:
A method for forming a profile having at least three consecutive concave surfaces in an internal surface of a metal part includes piercing the metal part to create at least three consecutive concave surfaces. First, second and third concave surfaces respectively have first, second and third radii of curvature. The second concave surface is between the first and third concave surfaces. The second radius of curvature is different from the first and third radii of curvature. The method includes carburizing the metal part, grinding the second concave surface, and linear broaching the first and third concave surfaces with an abrasive-covered broach. A method for forming a groove in a surface of a metal part includes broaching the surface to create a groove having a groove surface, carburizing the metal part, and broaching a portion of the groove surface with an abrasive-covered broach after carburizing the metal part.
Abstract:
The machine is equally applicable both for rough and finish machining of the tooth space of a bevel gear being cut; it possesses an increased rigidity attainable due to the provision of a device for orienting the tool carriage with respect to the work spindle, defined as straight slideways and another straight slideways square with the former one, to provide setup motions of the tool carriage.
Abstract:
A machine for broaching external gears comprising a frame, a pot broaching tool positioned with its axis vertical at the upper portion of the frame, a piston and cylinder device with its axis vertical located directly beneath the pot broach. The gear blank is positioned directly above a work support carried by the piston and is pushed upwardly through the pot broach to a position of clearance above. The cutting teeth of the broach are of course directed downwardly and each cutting tooth has a chip receiving space directly beneath it into which chips are formed during the broaching operation and from which chips are displaced for downward discharge.
Abstract:
A broaching machine having relatively reciprocable work and broach-supporting members comprising a pair of racks and pinions for effecting reciprocation of one member, a drive motor connected to a spline shaft, a pair of rigidly interconnected helical gears on said spline shaft, and gearing connecting each of said gears to one of said pinions so as to effect equal division of the load on each of said pinions.
Abstract:
The apparatus of the present invention provides a broaching machine configured to produce an internal gear member. The broaching machine includes a broaching tool defining a central axis. The broaching tool includes a first set of broaching teeth configured to cut both a first flank portion and a second flank portion of a plurality of gear teeth. The broaching tool also includes a second set of broaching teeth configured to cut only the second flank portion of the plurality of gear teeth. The plurality of gear teeth are formed such that the first and second flank portions of each gear tooth are tapered between a first end portion and a second end portion. The broaching machine also includes a motor configured to rotate the broaching tool about the central axis at a selectable rate and in a selectable direction. A corresponding method for producing an internal gear member is also provided.
