    摘要: In an electronic article surveillance system, quadrature transmitting and receiving antennas are used to improve field distribution. A transmitting antenna arrangement includes first and second adjacent co-planar antenna loops and excitation circuitry for generating respective alternating currents in the first and second loops such that the respective alternating currents are 90.degree. out of phase. In a receiving arrangement, respective signals received from two adjacent co-planar antenna loops are respectively phase-shifted by +45.degree. and -45.degree., and the resulting phase-shifted signals are summed. A far-field cancelling transmitting antenna arrangement includes four loops operated at phases of 0.degree., 90.degree., 180.degree. and 270.degree. respectively. All four loops may be co-planar, with any bucking vertical segments being horizontally displaced from each other. Alternatively, the 0.degree. and 180.degree. loops may also be arranged in a common plane that is close to and parallel with another plane in which the 90.degree. and 270.degree. loops are arranged.

    摘要: An electronic article surveillance system capable of reliable operation at high frequencies such as about 8 MHz, has an arrangement of transmitter and receiver antennas each lying in a flat, horizontal plane in substantial alignment with each other, with the receiver antenna positioned at the floor of a passageway at an interrogation zone and the transmitter antenna positioned overhead. Each antenna takes the form of a pair of parallel-connected, coplanar loops with the transmitter-connected loops being positioned such that electrical current flows around each loop in parallel in the same direction (a ++ configuration) and in the receiver antenna electrical current flows around each loop in parallel in mutually opposite directions (a +- configuration). The antennas are approximately of the same size and overall configuration, and they are positioned in substantial alignment so that the currents induced in the receiver antenna by the field from the transmitter antenna will effectively cancel. Current variations caused by the passage of a target through the interrogation zone will be greater in some of the conductors of the receiver antenna than in others and so can be detected.

    摘要: A compact transmitting and receiving antenna has dual feeds permitting magnetic and electric dipole radiation. The antenna includes a loop antenna disposed within a loop shield and a mast. The loop shield is insulated from ground and a feed is provided to it and the mast to excite these as an electric monopole. The shield becomes part of the monopole antenna and provides the benefits of top-loading. An isolation transformer permits the simultaneous transmission of monopole and dipole radiation. The transformer converts an unbalanced coaxial feed line to the balanced loop antenna and isolates the monopole feed voltage from the loop antenna feed. To eliminate the affect of the monopole feed on the loop feed, and vice versa, the components on the high side of the monopole feed (the loop shield and mast) are driven in common mode (voltage) by the monopole feed, and will not couple the loop antenna feed through the transformer windings. Thus, with respect to the monopole feed voltage, both sides of the transformer windings connected to a loop antenna will be at the same voltage. No voltage drop across the transformer windings due to the monopole feed voltage will occur and hence no coupling to the loop feed transmitter will take place. The voltage insulation requirements are concentrated at the monopole feed point so that the isolation feed transformer takes all the voltage, making the loop, loop shield and monopole driven in common mode.
