Abstract:
The present invention relates to a stable, aqueous odor-absorbing composition, for use on inanimate surfaces. The composition comprises from about 0.1% to about 5%, by weight of the composition, of solubilized, water-soluble, uncomplexed cyclodextrin, an effective amount of a solubilized, water-soluble, antimicrobial preservative having a water-solubility of greater than about 0.3%, optional perfume, and an aqueous carrier. The composition is essentially free of any material that would soil or stain fabric and has a pH of greater than about 3. The composition can be incorporated into a spray dispenser to create an article of commerce that can facilitate treatment of articles and/or surfaces with uncomplexed cyclodextrin solutions of a level that is effective yet is not discernible when dried on the surface.
Abstract:
An effective amount of active/cyclodextrin complex, in the form of particles having particle sizes below about 12 microns, is incorporated into solid consumer product compositions. The complexes provide fast release of the active when they are wetted even when the amount of water available to effect release of the active is limited as in personal use compositions like drugs, foods, and cosmetics where active release is typically effected by body fluids. Preferred actives include perfumes, flavors, and pharmaceutical materials that are used by consumers.

Abstract:
The present invention relates to a solid particulate or liquid rinse-added fabric softening composition containing specific chlorine scavengers. The solid particulate composition, comprises from about 50% to about 95%, by weight of the composition, of biodegradable, cationic quaternary ammonium fabric softening compound and an effective amount of chlorine scavenger selected from the group consisting of: amines; ammonium salts; amino acids, but not lysine; polyamino acids; polyethyleneimines; polyamines, but not di(higher alkyl)cyclic amines nor their condensation products; polyamineamides; polyacrylamides; and mixtures thereof. The solid particulate composition further comprises from about 0% to about 30%, by weight of the composition, of a modifier, for viscosity, dispersibility, or both; and from about 0% to about 20%, by weight of the composition, of a pH modifier. The liquid composition comprises from about 0.5% to about 50%, by weight of the composition, of biodegradable, cationic quaternary ammonium fabric softening compound, an effective amount of chlorine scavenger selected from the same group as for the solid particulate composition, from about 0% to about 30%, by weight of the composition of a modifier for viscosity, dispersibility, or both, and the balance comprising a liquid carrier selected from the group consisting of water, C.sub.1 -C.sub. 4 monohydric alcohols, C.sub.2 -C.sub.8 polyhydric alcohols, liquid polyalkylene glycols, propylene carbonate, and mixtures thereof. The liquid compositions have a pH of from about 2 to about 5.
Abstract:
Fabric softening compositions comprising fabric softening active(s), preferably cationic and/or nonionic fabric softening actives; cellulase; and an effective amount of perfume comprising certain selected ingredients and being substantially free of other specific perfume ingredients, to cover an off-odor that occurs on fabric treated with said softening compositions. The compositions preferably have a low pH and can also contain free radical scavenging antioxidant material and/or chelant to stabilize the cellulase.
Abstract:
Biodegradable chemical softening compositions are provided comprising a mixture of a quaternized ester-amine compound and a polyhydroxy compound. Preferred biodegradable quaternized ester-amine compounds include diester dialkyl dimethyl ammonium salts such as diester ditallow dimethyl ammonium chloride, diester di(touch hydrogenated)tallow dimethyl ammonium chloride and diester di(hydrogenated)tallow dimethyl ammonium chloride. Preferred polyhydroxy compounds are selected from the group consisting of glycerol, and polyethylene glycols and polypropylene glycols having a weight average molecular weight from about 200 to 4000.The biodegradable chemical softening compositions are prepared by first mixing the quaternized ester-amine compound into the polyhydroxy compound at a specific temperature range wherein the polyhydroxy compound is miscible with the quaternized ester-amine compound and then diluting the mixture with a liquid carrier at a specific pH and temperature range to form an aqueous vesicle dispersion suitable for treating fibrous cellulosic material. The biodegradable chemical softening compositions disclosed herein are primarily intended for softening disposable paper products such as tissues and towels. However, the biodegradable chemical softening compositions can also be used to soften fibrous cellulosic materials in textile form.
