摘要: The present invention enhances the usability of a write-once recording medium having a plurality of recording layers. The write-once recording medium has a plurality of recording layers each including a regular recording reproduction area, an alternate area, a first alternate-address management information area and a second alternate-address management information area (a TDMA). In addition, written unwritten state indication information (a space bitmap) is recorded therein. Typically, the written unwritten state indication information is recorded in the second alternate-address management information area. By additionally recording alternate-address management information related to an alternate-address process in the second alternate-address management information area, the second alternate-address management information area can be used as an area for implementing renewal of the alternate-address management information. In addition, for every data unit (each cluster) on each of the recording layers on the write-once recording medium, written unwritten state indication information is used as information indicating whether or not data has been written into the data unit. On top of that, the second alternate-address management information areas (TDMAs), which are each provided on one of recording layers, are used sequentially one after another each as an area for updating alternate-address management information and written unwritten state indication information.

摘要: A recording/reproducing apparatus comprising an OP head 11, a wobble circuit 12, a system controller 13, and an address-decoding timing generator 14. The wobble circuit 12 extracts a wobble signal from the signal the OP head 11 has read. A PLL circuit for generating a sync signal from the wobble signal is held while no normal wobble signal is generated. The address-decoding timing generator (Address DEC TG) 14 receives a signal the OP head 11 has reproduced, decodes the address represented by the signal, and supplies the address data to the system controller 13. The generator 14 also generates a timing signal from the sync signal supplied from the wobble circuit 12 and supplies the timing signal to the other components of the recording/reproducing apparatus.

摘要: The present invention allows the usability of a write-once recording medium to be enhanced. The write-once recording medium is provided with an ordinary recording/reproduction area, an alternate area, a first alternate-address management information area (DMA) and a second alternate-address management information area (TDMA). In addition, written/unwritten state indication information (a space bitmap) is also recorded. The second alternate-address management information area is an area allowing alternate-address management information recorded therein to be renewed by adding alternate-address management information thereto. In addition, the written/unwritten state indication information indicates whether or not data has been recorded in each data unit (cluster) on the recording medium. Thus, it is possible to correctly execute management of defects and properly implement renewal of data in the write-once recording medium.

摘要: An optical disc medium 10 having a wobbled track groove 12 includes three wobble patterns including a flat wobble pattern, a positive pulse wobble pattern, and a negative pulse wobble pattern. In the flat wobble pattern, the amplitude of the wobble from the lengthwise direction of the track groove is zero such that the track groove is flat. In the positive pulse wobble pattern, the amplitude of the wobble from the length-wise direction of the track groove is positive such that the track groove is wobbled in a first direction perpendicular to the length-wise direction. Further, in the negative pulse wobble pattern, the amplitude of the wobble from the lengthwise direction of the track groove is negative such that the track groove is wobbled in a second direction opposite to the first direction. Then, three data values can be recorded using three distinctive wobble patterns.

摘要: The invention relates to an optical disc for recording data at a constant density, so called CLV (Constant Linear Velocity) or at zoned CLV. The disc has headers distributed along the disc on regular angular positions, a so called CAV (Constant Angular Velocity) pattern subdividing the track in track portions for recording an amount of data proportional to the radical position of the track portion concerned. Address information included in the headers is provided at the data density, which is CLV. The apparatus comprises header detection means for detecting the headers at the CAV locations, and for recovering position information from the headers at CLV density. Data sectors do not start at headers and are not fitted regularly between the headers, but start and stop at arbitrary positions which are calculated from the known amounts of data recordable in the track portion.

摘要: A novel recording medium capable of realizing high density, reliability in a recording/reproducing operation and facilitating the process which is performed by a drive apparatus is provided. An amplitude amount of wobbling of a track is made to be 10 nm to 15 nm and a track pitch of the track is made 0.74 &mgr;m to 0.82 &mgr;m. The determined values enable large-capacity recording to be realized and the recording/reproducing performance to be prevented from being deteriorated. As administration information, recommended information for a recording/reproducing operation at an inner peripheral position and an outer peripheral position is recorded. The size of data in a linking section is made to be the same as the sector for constituting a data block.

摘要: A header in which an address signal has been recorded is provided on the disc for every predetermined sector interval. Recording data is arranged in an error correction encoding block and the error correcting process is performed. The error correction encoding block is divided into a plurality of portions in a predetermined direction, thereby forming sectors S1, S2, S3, . . . . The data of each sector is recorded subsequent to the header. Upon reproduction, the header is detected and the data is reproduced for every sector. One of the error correcting processes is performed in the reproduced data in the sectors S1, S2, S3, . . . . In the case where errors cannot be corrected by the error correcting process in the reproduced data in the sector, the error correction block including the sectors S1, S2, S3, . . . is reproduced and the error correcting processes are performed in the sequences in two directions.

摘要: An optical disc having address information recorded in a wobbling manner is arranged to record or reproduce data at correct positions. A track is previously formed as a pregroove and is wobbled in accordance with address information. The track is divided into a plurality of sectors. A plurality of sync marks S are formed in each sector, and at least one of the sync marks in one round of the track is formed as a reference mark R different from the other sync marks S. To reduce overhead and to achieve high-density random recording and reproduction, a method may also be used in which one cluster of data is formed of a data area and a link area located between data areas and consisting of two frames, in which each of the data area and the link area has a structure formed of unit frames separated by a sync signal (frame sync), and in which data is recorded or reproduced as unit clusters.
