    Abstract: According to one embodiment, a display device includes a plurality of first lines, a plurality of second lines, a plurality of switch elements, a plurality of pixel electrodes, a plurality of third lines, a display layer, and a controller. The plurality of first lines extend in a first direction. The plurality of second lines extend in a second direction. The plurality of third lines extend in the second direction. The switch elements are electrically connected to the first lines and the second lines. The pixel electrodes are connected to the switch elements. The display layer performs an optical operation based on an electrical signal applied to the pixel electrodes. The controller includes at least one switch connected between the second lines and the third lines.

    Abstract: A display device with a touch detection function includes a display function layer, a plurality of touch detection electrodes arranged side by side to extend in a first direction, and a plurality of drive electrodes arranged side by side to extend in a second direction, electrostatic capacitance being formed at intersections of the touch detection electrodes and the drive electrodes. The plurality of drive electrodes extends to a first position or a second position outside of the first position, the first position being away from a center of an outermost touch detection electrode by a half length of an arrangement pitch of the touch detection electrodes, the outermost touch detection electrode being defined as outermost one of touch detection electrodes included in an effective display region of the display function layer, and an outer edge of the effective display region is located on or inside the first position.

    Abstract: A common electrode for a display, which is originally provided in a liquid crystal display element, is also used as one (drive electrode) of a pair of electrodes for a touch sensor, and the other (detection-electrode-for-the-sensor) of the pair of electrodes is newly formed. An existing common drive signal as a drive signal for display is used in common for a drive signal for the touch sensor. A capacitance is formed between the common electrode and the detection-electrode-for-the-sensor, and touch detection is performed by utilizing a change of this capacitance caused by a finger touch of a user. Thus, a display device with a touch sensor is also applicable to a mobile device in which electric potential of the user is inconstant in many cases. The newly-provided electrode is only the detection-electrode-for-the-sensor, and it is unnecessary to newly prepare a drive signal for the touch sensor.

    Abstract: According to one embodiment, a touch control method of a touch control device which drives a touch sensor to collect data indicating a position of at least one object to be detected, and outputs the data to an external device, the touch sensor having plural first electrodes arranged to extend a first direction, and plural second electrodes arranged to extend in a second direction crossing the first direction, the touch control method includes driving the first electrodes in a self-detection mode to specify at least one of the first electrodes which detects the object, and driving the specified at least one first electrode and the second electrodes in a partial mutual detection mode to collect data indicating the position of the object.
