摘要: A method for secure entry of a user-identifier in a publicly positioned device can include establishing a private communications link between a user and the publicly positioned device; dividing the user-identifier into at least two portions; separately prompting the user for each portion of the user-identifier; prompting the user for a combination of random data and the user-identifier; and, discarding the random data from the combination. In the preferred embodiments, the publicly positioned device can have a visual interface through which the user can be visually prompted for the random data and the user-identifier. Alternatively, the publicly positioned device can have a telephone interface through which the user can be audibly prompted for the random data and the user-identifier. In the case of a visual display, the private communications link can be established by linking the publicly positioned device to active glasses having a shuttered display. The opening and closing of the shuttered display can be synchronized with the display of the prompts in the visual interface such that only the wearer of the active glasses can view the prompts. In the case of a telephone interface, an telephone operator system, for example an Interactive Voice Response system or a human operator, can provide the prompts audibly through the telephone interface.

摘要: A communication system (100) includes a network, a first application running on a first Host computer system (First Host) (102) coupled to the network, and a second application running on a second Host computer system (Second Host) (122) coupled to the network. The first application issues an Extended PING command (300) for sending an Extended ECHO message (380) from the First Host (102) into the network and directed to the second application in the Second Host (122). The second application in the Second Host (122), in response to receiving the Extended ECHO message (380), issues an Extended PING command (300) for sending an Extended ECHO reply message (380) into the network and directed to the first application to measure the full loop-back network latency of communicating a message application-to-application across the network.

摘要: A multimedia search and indexing system automatically selects scenes or events of interest from any media, i.e., video, film, sound for replay, in whole or in part, in other contexts. The entire audio track of a recorded event in video, film, sound, etc., is analyzed to determine audio levels within a set of frequency ranges of interest. Audio clip levels within the selected frequency ranges are chosen as audio cues representative of events of interest in the track. The selection criteria are applied to the audio track of the recorded event. An Edit Decision List (EDL) is generated from the analysis of the audio track. The list is representative of scenes or sounds of interest as clips for reuse. The clips are reviewed and accepted or rejected for reuse. Once selected, the clips are edited using industry standard audio and video editing techniques.

摘要: A communication system includes a client controlled gateway enabling concurrent voice/data transmission in a distributed information network and a communication network between the client and a service representative of a host system provider. A computer and a modem couple the client to the gateway in the communication network over a single communication path. The computer includes a browser for searching the distributed network. The browser includes "plug-in" programs which interact with the data server in supporting voice calls between the client and the host system. The gateway functions as a shared voice data (SVD) server to couple the client to the data server after authentication of the client's identification (ID) and password. The gateway transfers data between the client and the data server over the distributed network in accordance with screens presented to the client by the host system. Concurrently, voice service is provided between a representative of the host system and the client over the communication network using "action buttons" appearing in selected screens presented to the client by the host system provider over the distributed network. One "action button" enables the client to initiate voice transmissions over the communication network concurrently while data is being transmitted over the distributed network. Another "action button" enables the host provider to initiate voice transmission over the communication network concurrently while data is being transmitted over the distributed network.

摘要: A user through a personal computer, in real time, controls the activation and selection of voice and data transmission paths in a communication network independent of network profiles. The network includes a public switched telephone network and a data network, e.g. the Internet for voice and/or data transmissions over either the voice or data networks. In the network, a voice terminal and a computer terminal are coupled to a shared voice and data terminal. A digital subscriber line access multiplexer is coupled to the shared voice and data terminal; the data network through a client server interface, and a voice network through an intelligent switch. The client server interface includes programmable stored data descriptive of network-authorized data and voice functions and transmission paths in the voice and data networks. The interface is linked to the multiplexer and switch for transmitting signaling messages directing traffic to the voice and data networks in accordance with the stored data. The computer terminal displays menus obtained from the client server which enable the user, in real time, to activate and select voice and/or data transmission paths through either the voice and/or data networks independent of pre-defined network profiles and/or traditional traffic assumptions.

摘要: A network includes a facility for transmitting baseband telephone signals, plural subscriber locations, and twisted pair circuits which connect each subscriber location to the baseband telephone facility. The network further includes apparatus for transmitting and receiving broadband signals over the twisted pair circuits. A broadband transmitter is coupled to a network twisted pair circuit and outputs a broadband signal for delivery to a subscriber location. A first twisted pair circuit is utilized as an intermediate transmission path for the broadband signals. A distribution module is coupled to the first twisted pair circuit and is connected to a destination subscriber location via a destination twisted pair circuit. First filter circuits are connected in the network twisted pair circuit; are transparent to the baseband telephone signals and block the broadband signals. Second filter circuits are connected in the first twisted pair circuit; are transparent to baseband telephone signals and block the broadband signals. A coupling circuit connects the first and second filter circuits and enables passage of broadband signals from the network twisted pair circuit to the first twisted pair circuit, and then to a distribution module and to a broadband destination location.

摘要: Embodiments of the present invention address deficiencies of the art in respect to social bookmarking and provide a method, system and computer program product for aggregating scoring of tagged content across social bookmarking systems. In an embodiment of the invention, a method for aggregating scoring of tagged content across social bookmarking systems can be provided. The method can include combining tag scores for a tag in content across multiple different social bookmarking systems into a single aggregate tag score and applying the single aggregate tag score to the tag in the content. In this regard, combining tag scores for a tag in content across multiple different social bookmarking systems into a single aggregate tag score can include computing either a simple or a weighted average of the tag scores for the tag to produce the single aggregate score.
