A method and a device for processing a signal determine a timing phase over an observation interval of an input signal. A frequency estimation is determined based on the timing phase. A phase correction is determined for the observation interval based on the timing phase and the frequency offset. Then the phase correction is used to adjust the timing of the input signal. Also, a communication system with at least one such device is described.

A method for data processing in an optical network includes providing several main wavelengths and processing a subcarrier modulation for the several main wavelengths. An optical network component and a communication system including such an optical network component are also provided.

The invention relates to a method for transmitting data in a data network using virtual containers, which are combined to form a virtual concatenated group by means of the Link Capacity Adjustment Scheme, LCAS. The virtual concatenated group is sub-divided on the send side into a first virtual concatenated group and a second virtual concatenated group. Data of a first type is inserted on the send side into the first virtual concatenated group and data of the second type is inserted into the second virtual concatenated group. Said data is then transmitted via the data network.

A received optical signal is coherently demodulated and converted into electrical complex samples, which are dispersion compensated in a compensation filter. A control circuit calculates comparison values from corrected samples and an estimated error value. A plurality of compensation functions is applied according to a predetermined dispersion range and after a second iteration, the compensation filter is set to an optimum compensation function.
Abstract:
A subcarrier system generates a phase comparison signal in a transmitter and transmits the phase comparison signal together with an optical subcarrier multiplex signal in the same transmission channel of an optical network. A receiver measures a phase distortion between a phase reference signal and the received phase comparison signal for each modulation section of the received subcarrier symbols, calculating at least one correction value and correcting time jitters or phase impairments of all parallel received or regained subcarrier symbols as a function of the phase distortion of the received phase comparison signal. Time jitter/phase jitter can be compensated without high hardware expenses.
