Abstract:
A method and system for improving dental esthetics. Specifically, the method includes providing a polymeric shell dental appliance of a type that is removably placeable over a patient's dentition. The polymeric shell dental appliance comprises a concave trough which conforms to at least one tooth when placed over the patient's dentition. In addition, the method includes changing a visual appearance of a segment of the polymeric shell dental appliance. The visual appearance of the segment is changed by applying a thin film to a surface of the segment. In particular, the segment is disposed in a location corresponding to a portion of the patient's dentition that is to be esthetically improved.
Abstract:
A visible coding of components of an articulator apparatus that mount maxillary and mandible casts indicates the relative correspondence between post-treatment goals and the present locations of a person's teeth and jaws. From another aspect, the visible coding indicates at least a direction, and preferably, a direction and a distance, which a person's teeth and/or jaws must be moved to achieve the goals.
Abstract:
Output attachments to an electromagnetic-energy outputting device are coded using colors, topography, or combinations of color and topography. The output attachments, which are removable and interchangeable, may be interchanged for purposes of performing particular surgical or other cutting procedures. Instructions provided to a user refer to colors or other coded indicators in order to provide rapid and reliable switching of output attachments.
Abstract:
A support apparatus for supporting components of a dental material includes two individual bottles each capable of receiving therein a component which can be shaken. Each individual bottle has a coding associated therewith and a cover has cover regions with respective codings corresponding to the bottle coding. A mixing base has a pair of recesses each with individual coding corresponding to the coding of a respective one of the individual bottles, whereby each respective bottle has a respective cover region and a respective recess of the mixing base associated therewith and identifiable as associated therewith by virtue of the corresponding coding thereon. The individual bottles collectively comprise a bottle unit and are closeable by a common cover.
Abstract:
A method of forming a hand tool by providing a mold having at least two sections injecting a material for forming the hand tool into the mold, and forming a sharpened edge surface on the hand tool along a surface formed by the parting line of the mold. The hand tool may be a dental tool having a working surface for contacting a patient's teeth. The working surface is formed of a substantially a flat curved section extending from a distal end of the dental tool. The distal end of the curved section having a facet extending substantially parallel to a longitudinal axis of the dental tool and having a sharpened surface formed on a proximal edge surface of the facet.
Abstract:
The present invention is directed to selection of individual patient archwires by examining the patients inner arch rather than the patients teeth. In particular, a method of archwire selection comprises (a) obtaining a representation of a patient's inner arch curve (a nullPIACnull); (b) selecting an archwire shape based at least partially on the PIAC representation; (c) making an initial selection of an archwire size based at least partially on the PIAC representation; (d) selecting a final archwire size after considering something other than the PIAC representation; and (e) selecting an archwire to be used based on the selected archwire shape and selected final archwire size. Using the PIAC rather than the occlusal or labial and buccal surfaces of the teeth for archwire shape selection promotes shaping the teeth to the shape of the jaw bone and gives consistent facial esthetics plus better retention of the treatment correction. Use of a patients PIAC/jaw bone structure also facilitates automating the process of archwire selection.
Abstract:
A mixing capsule, especially for the production of dental materials, comprises a cartridge that is closed on one end by a piston. The piston has a hemispherical recess that forms a secondary chamber and is closed off from the main chamber of the cartridge by a separating device. A body that is provided in the initial state in the main chamber is used to facilitate the mixing process and to penetrate the separating device at the beginning of the process, whereby the main chamber and the secondary chamber form a single mixing area. The body preferably disintegrates during the mixing process.
Abstract:
An apparatus that includes a handle; a pair of opposed gripping members, each member comprising a gripping surface, each gripping surface comprising a forward edge; and a gripping member position and orientation indicator (GMPOI) positioned between the handle and the forward edges. A method of coupling an orthodontic bracket to a tooth comprising: providing a bracket holder comprising a gripping member position and orientation indicator (GMPOI); utilizing the bracket holder to grip a bracket and to place the bracket on a tooth; while viewing the position and orientation of the GMPOI relative to the tooth on which the bracket is being mounted, rotating and/or moving the bracket holder so as to set the orientation and position of the bracket; subsequently causing the bracket holder to release the bracket; inserting a portion of the bracket holder into the bracket; and rotating the bracket holder so as to rotate the bracket.
Abstract:
The invention is directed to a coolant gel composition containing propenamide polymers, a paraben-based preservative, and water in certain amounts to form a composition having gel strength, elasticity, and cold retention properties to enable the gel to function as a color variation inducing material for low temperature thermochromic materials. The nature of the instant cooling gel renders it suitable for use in a hand operated color variation inducing device in the toy field.
Abstract:
A dental root canal instrument with a head part and an instrument part connected thereto. To lengthen the useful lifetime of the instrument, the instrument part has a coating of a wear-resistant material over at least a part of its length. The coating preferably has a certain color which is characteristic of the respective type of dental root canal instrument.
