Abstract:
The invention is directed to an aqueous based resin coating and paint composition comprising as essential ingredients, a colorant, a polyvinyl acetate polymer/acrylic polymer emulsion blend primary binder, a polyvinyl-based film forming resin secondary binder, such as polyvinyl alcohol, and water with sufficient amount of a surface active agent to form a stable suspension. The coating or paint composition is applied onto an elastomeric or polyvinyl chloride surface until the coating can be thermally treated or evaporated to incorporate the coating into the elastomeric or polyvinyl chloride surface as a permanent color. The invention also comprises a method for the preparation of the aqueous-base coating composition in which the essential components are prepared as aqueous dispersions or emulsions which are blended together to form the final coating or paint composition.
Abstract:
The invention is directed to resin coating, adhesive, and cement compositions comprising styrenic copolymers and a solvent comprised of a terpene and certain high evaporation rate organic solvents. The high evaporation rate terpene co-solvents reduce the drying times of applied coatings and enhance the character of the ultimately applied coating in the formation of high adhesion bonding with molded elastomeric styrene copolymer surface substrates. The invention is also directed to a method of applying the instant coatings to substrate surfaces.
Abstract:
The present invention is directed toward water based play compositions including a crosslinkable network polymer and a crosslinking system effective to crosslink the polymer. The crosslinking system is a water-soluble salt complex including a primary crosslinking agent, a secondary crosslinking agent, and a tertiary crosslinking agent. The crosslinking system contains a diminished amount of boron compounds while remaining effective in crosslinking network polymers including polyvinyl alcohol (to form moldable dough compositions) and guar gum (to form hydrogels).
Abstract:
The present invention provides a fluorescent marker ink coloring composition incorporating an optical brightener, a film-forming agent, an aqueous carrier, and a colorant. The optical brightener is an amphoteric distyryl fluorescent whitener which generates a special effect in the dried marking ink composition. The coloring composition can optionally include one or more of a humectant, a surfactant, a preservative, a drying agent, a pH regulant, a bittering agent or a fragrance. The present invention further provides a writing instrument comprising the coloring composition.
Abstract:
The invention is directed to a pliable play gel composition comprised of certain guar gums, a cross-linking agent, and water in certain amounts to form a composition having exceptional gel cohesiveness and rheology resulting in a free flowing play gel exhibiting a novel texture and tactile feel character. The nature of the instant play gel enables the use of the guar based gel in a host of play patterns for children or adults which exploit its free flowing and pleasantly comfortable tactile feel characteristics.
Abstract:
The present invention provides a highly reflective fluorescent polymer composition comprising a benzoxzolyl naphthalene optical brightener and a polymeric substrate support material formed into three dimensional articles or fibers. The enhanced light reflectivity of the instant compositions occurs over a wavelength range of from about 400 to 700 nanometers. The fiber embodiment comprises a body or support portion made of a flexible and durable thermoplastic material which is at least partially translucent and bis(benzoxazolyl)napthalenes optical brightener molecularly dispersed throughout the polymeric body potion of the fiber. The fibers are fluorescent to a UV source and can be effectively utilized for artificial hair for toy dolls as well as for various other textile applications.

Abstract:
The present invention provides a cyanoacrylate adhesive composition having high shear bond strength, peeling bond strength, tensile strength and impact bond strength and superior wear characteristics particularly in toy applications where hostile play environments demand hot-cold cycle resistance. The cyanoacrylate adhesive composition contains (a) up to 20% by weight of a cyanoacrylate monomer, (b) a styrene-based elastomeric block copolymer, and (c) a specifc solvent which is selected to effect the solution of both components. The invention is also directed to a method of applying the instant adhesives to substrate surfaces.
Abstract:
The present invention is directed toward a play composition including a polymeric binder and oil. In an embodiment, the binder is a hydrogenated triblock copolymer including styrene. The oil is a mineral oil. The composition may further include a plasticizer, a release agent, and one or more fillers.
