摘要： A screw extruder particularly for the treatment of pulverized material comprises an elongate casing including a feed portion and a treatment portion. A main screw extending along the length of the casing is rotatably mounted in the same and a short auxiliary screw is rotatably mounted in the feed portion of the casing parallel with the main screw but not in mesh with the same. Each of the screws is driven by its own drive means and the rotational speed of the auxiliary screw can be varied independently of the rotational speed of the main screw.

The feeder screws are operable to deliver coating composition to the precompacting screw and the latter is operable to deliver coating composition to the two high-pressure screws.

摘要： In a dough mixer having a frame, a tank, a power transmission driving a sleeve and a coaxial shaft, both projecting through one end wall of the tank, the improvement which includes a longitudinally adjustable idler shaft spaced from and aligned with the power driven shaft and extending through the other tank wall. An outer paddle assembly nests within the tank and at one end is secured to said drive shaft sleeve and at its other end is journalled upon the idler shaft. An inner paddle assembly rotates within the outer paddle assembly, at one end is secured to the drive shaft and at its opposite end is journalled upon the idler shaft and wherein, the inner paddle assembly is easily removable from the tank for cleaning by removing the two retainer nuts and upon axial retraction of the idler shaft sufficient to disengage from the inner paddle assembly to permit disengagement of the inner paddle assembly from the drive shaft.

摘要： An apparatus is disclosed for continuously producing glass fiber reinforced thermoplastic compositions by extrusion techniques whereby surging is minimized or substantially eliminated and products having good appearance and uniformity may be obtained. A blended mixture of glass fibers and thermoplastic resin in divided form are fed and processed through an extruder equipped with a multi-flight screw which provides for two stages, each state including a feed zone, transition zone and metering zone and wherein the compression ratio in the first stage is in the range of about 3:1 to 5:1, the compression ratio in the second stage is in the range of about 1.5:1 to about 3.5:1, and the ratio between the flight depth of the screw in the second stage feed zone and the flight depth of the screw in the first stage feed zone is in the range of about 1:1.25 to about 1:2.5. The mixture is continuously extruded under the above conditions, cooled to solidification, and subdivided into the desired size. The resulting compositions are particularly suitable for molding operations.

摘要： Polymers containing volatile solvents or the like are fed into a cylindrical cage and carried through the cage by screw members past injectors which add a desolventizing agent to the polymer. This agent is mixed into the polymer and the polymer is then forced through a circular ring, which is axially adjustable, forming an annular restriction which exits into a vented section of the cage where pressure on the polymer is substantially reduced and the volatile solvent escapes through slit-like vent openings to be collected and returned to solvent recovery apparatus. This arrangement is repeated through a second set of injectors, mixing screws, and vent section. The polymer may have compounding agents, such as an oil, injected and mixed into it, either in the same apparatus, or in a second machine, and either before or after the desolventizing steps.
