Abstract: A structural reinforcement for an article including a carrier (10) that includes: (i) a mass of polymeric material (12) having an outer surface; and (ii) at least one fibrous composite insert (14) or overlay (960) having an outer surface and including at least one elongated fiber arrangement (e.g., having a plurality of ordered fibers). The fibrous insert (14) or overlay (960) is envisioned to adjoin the mass of the polymeric material in a predetermined location for carrying a predetermined load that is subjected upon the predetermined location (thereby effectively providing localized reinforcement to that predetermined location). The fibrous insert (14) or overlay (960) and the mass of polymeric material (12) are of compatible materials, structures or both, for allowing the fibrous insert or overlay to be at least partially joined to the mass of the polymeric material. Disposed upon at least a portion of the carrier (10) may be a mass of activatable material (126). The fibrous insert (14) or overlay (960) may include a polymeric matrix that includes a thermoplastic epoxy.

Abstract: A method for producing a fiber assembly, including: putting a plurality of fibers and a fiber treatment agent into a stirring tank; and stirring a mixture of the fibers and the fiber treatment agent with a stirring blade to granulate the mixture, wherein the fibers include carbon fibers, and the mixture is granulated such that the fibers are aligned. A method for producing a fiber assembly, wherein a plurality of fibers containing carbon fibers and a liquid are put into a stirring tank and the mixture of the fibers and the liquid is stirred with a stirring blade, thereby obtaining a fiber assembly which has a spheroidal shape or a strand shape.

Abstract: A method and apparatus for the additive manufacturing of three-dimensional objects are disclosed. Two or more materials are extruded simultaneously as a composite, with at least one material in liquid form and at least one material in a solid continuous strand completely encased within the liquid material. A means of curing the liquid material after extrusion hardens the composite. A part is constructed using a series of extruded composite paths. The strand material within the composite contains specific chemical, mechanical, or electrical characteristics that instill the object with enhanced capabilities not possible with only one material.

Abstract: A heat-conductive sheet includes a binder resin and a fibrous filler having a major axis and dispersed in the binder resin. The major axis of the fibrous filler is arranged at an angle of 70 to 90 degrees with respect to a surface direction of the heat-conductive sheet when viewed in a cross-section along a thickness direction of the heat-conductive sheet. If the heat-conductive sheet is processed to a shape having a thickness of 2 mm and a diameter of 29 mm, and subject to a compression such that the thickness is decreased by 40% of the thickness before the compression, at room temperature for 24 hours, a difference of an angle of the major axis of the fibrous filler after release of the compression and an angle of the major axis of the fibrous filler before the compression is in a range within 10 degrees.
