    摘要: Rejects from a conventional first set of cleaners from a system feeding recycled cellulosic fiber slurry to a paper machine or rejects from the paper machine approach system cleaners are fractionated to produce a first, fine fraction, stream and a second, coarse fraction, stream containing most of the fiber and larger solids. The second stream is acted upon by a disperser, deflaker, or like mechanical agitating device, to disrupt the fiber flocs and reduce the size of solids to produce a third stream containing few or no fiber flocs and no large particles. The third stream may be diluted and cleaned in a second set of cleaners, and then is returned to the first set of cleaners (e.g. to the inlet of the first stage or between the first and second stages). Ink, and other fine undesirable particles may be removed from the first stream via flotation or cleaning, and the cleaned stream may also be returned to the first set of cleaners if desired.

    摘要: A process for separating printing ink from recycled paper fiber includes the steps of repulping recycled paper furnish with water in a rotary mixer for about 5 minutes at a consistency of 6% to 18% with a mixing element having a top speed no greater than 2,000 ft/min. This first stage repulping and mixing is followed by a second mixing stage of 20 to 45 minutes with a mixing element tip speed of 2,500 to 4,000 ft/min. Agglomerated contamination particles in the resulting slurry are removed by centrifugal cleaning and slot screening.

    摘要: A process of preparing a suspension of paper making fibers in water for use in the making of paper includes the steps of treating a mass of fibrous materials, such as shredded waste paper materials, with steam under pressure in a closed vessel, and transferring the resulting mixture of treated materials and steam to a second vessel containing a substantial volume of aqueous liquid in such manner that the mixture impacts directly the liquid in the second vessel at very high velocity causing disintegration of the solid materials into essentially separate fibers and contaminant particles accompanied by dispersion of these solids in the liquid in the second vessel. Systems are described for carrying out these process steps on either a continuous or a batch basis.

    摘要: An apparatus for removing binding wire from a bale. The bale containing a plurality of peripheral baling wires is supported on a conveyor and a cutting knife moves vertically along the bale to cut the wires. A pair of gripping knives are located on the opposite side of the bale from the cutting knife and the gripping knives more respectively from the upper and lower ends of the bale toward the vertical midpoint of the bale to gather the cut wires together. The gathered cut wires are engaged by a rotatable winding mechanism which acts to wind the cut wires and remove the wound wires to a discharge site.

    摘要: A shredder comprises a cutter unit including a pair of rotary cutters for shredding a material therebetween while the rotary cutters are rotating in a normal direction, a reversible motor for rotating the rotary cutters through a speed reducer, and a switch unit for selectively causing the motor to rotate the rotary cutter in the normal direction or reversing the motor to rotate the rotary cutters in a reverse direction to remove the material from the rotary cutters when the material is jammed in the rotary cutters. An electrical control circuit is responsive to actuation of the switch unit for enabling the motor to produce a larger torque while rotating in the reverse direction than the torque produced while rotating in the normal direction, thereby reliably releasing the rotary cutters from biting engagement with the material when jammed. The switch unit has means for generating a time delay while switching between rotation of the motor in the normal direction and rotation of the motor in the reverse direction, so that the motor and the speed reducer are protected against an undue load when starting to rotate in the reverse direction.

    摘要: A new and useful apparatus has been devised for grinding paper into cellulose fiber insulation in which a hammermill or rotary beater has a paper feed inlet which establishes a low pressure zone at the entrance to the hammermill housing whereby to encourage reverse flow of partially ground materials from the outer perimeter of the hammermill into the low pressure zone, the partially ground material tending to collect in the form of a vortex and to recombine with the main stream of material being supplied into the feed inlet. In this way any of the partially ground or shredded material not small enough to pass through a classification grid or screen at the discharge of the hammermill will continuously intermix with the main stream of material for continuous grinding to the desired size.

    摘要: A method for converting plastic-containing, particularly filament-reinforced, cellulosic broke to a fluff of substantially separated fibers and pieces of plastic in the substantial absence of water. The dry broke material is first subjected to a pretreatment step in the absence of liquid wherein the broke pieces are rubbed against one another to free about 50 percent of the cellulosic matter as individual fibers and reduce the plastic matter to pieces having lengths of generally less than about one and one-half inches. The pretreated broke is then conveyed via storage and cyclone separator steps to a refiner treatment wherein the dry broke material is refined into a fluff containing dry cellulosic fibers and randomly distributed plastic pieces. The fluff contains less than 30 percent by weight plastic pieces obtained as a result of adding dry cellulosic pulp to the broke prior to the refining step or prior to the pretreatment step.
