Abstract:
A television automatic gain control circuit which transforms the low input impedance of the gain control terminal of a stage such as a grounded base bipolar transistor RF amplifier of a UHF tuner or a PIN diode attenuator utilized for tuner gain reduction to an impedance comparable to that of the impedance of the gain control terminal of an MOS/FET transistor used as an RF amplifier of a VHF tuner. Additionally, the control circuit provides for clamping of the AGC voltage at a selected level to provide AGC delay different from VHF AGC delay. Also, a predetermined voltage offset is provided to translate the AGC voltage applied to the RF amplifier of the VHF tuner before being applied to the gain controlled stage of the UHF tuner.
Abstract:
A video output amplifier utilizes two transistors arranged in cascode configuration for driving the cathode electrode of a color television kinescope. A negative feedback network couples the collector electrode of the output transistor of the cascode configuration to the base electrode of the input transistor of the pair, and includes an arc current limiting resistor which serially couples the output transistor to the kinescope cathode.
Abstract:
Color television signal detection apparatus utilizing only two synchronous detectors, the output signals of the two detectors, being combined with each other to derive a third signal of the same type as that provided by the synchronous detectors themselves, each of these signals then being combined with the luminance signal to provide the three desired signals representative of the color components.
Abstract:
A passive cooler arranged for three stages of cooling including an outer L-shaped member serving as two of the cooling stages and an inner member serving as the third stage of cooling at a preselected equilibrium temperature. Certain surfaces of each leg of the outer member and an exposed surface of the inner member are each given a surface finish having a spectral response in accordance with certain radiation wavelengths such that the inner member is maintained at a preselected temperature which is lower than otherwise possible when the cooler is exposed to thermal radiation, the cooler being located in an environment having a temperature lower than the preselected temperature.
Abstract:
A plurality of insulated equal diameter conductors are clustered in a ring about a centered idler conductor. By providing a center idler conductor insulated from the outer conductors, while connecting only every other one of the outer conductors in parallel between first and second terminals and connecting only the remaining outer conductors in parallel between third and fourth terminals, a transmission line of low impedance, balance and symmetry is provided.
Abstract:
A light-modifying portion divided into a plurality of discrete subareas each of which is occupied by an assigned light-modifying form, such as a prism of selected inclination, produces a pattern in accordance with a code of output light beams during decoding which manifests the code. The meridional angle of the form may also be assigned in accordance with the code. Redundancy is optionally obtainable in that the total plurality of subareas may be divided into groups of subareas, each member of one particular group possessing the same selected inclination and meridional angle and by using an imaging lens during decoding to focus ones of the output light beams derived from the total plurality of discrete subareas to a common focus point.
Abstract:
A magnetic reed sensor comprises a generally U-shaped permanent magnet having first and second end poles defining a gap of a given distance therebetween and establishing a magnetic flux path thereacross. A reed of flexible magnetic material is fixedly mounted at one end to a support with its other end forming a cantilever projection into the magnetic flux path wherein the flux path is normally symmetrically disposed about the reed. An external ferromagnetic material moved in proximity to said symmetric flux path, creates an unbalanced flux distribution which urges the reed toward one of the pole pieces. One embodiment includes a light source and a light pipe each mounted in opposite directions from the reed so that an optical path is completed between the light source and the light pipe in response to movement of the reed. The magnetic reed sensor then serves as a light shutter which is used in conjunction with an automotive engine to provide an optical indication of the relative timing of the engine.
Abstract:
A tape cartridge magazine includes a top surface and a bottom surface maintained in spaced relationship by a first and second side member to form an enclosure having a front and rear opening. Support rails within the enclosure support a plurality of tape cartridges in a stacked array. Access slots in the first side member provide access into the interior portion of the enclosure to allow manipulation of each of the plurality of tape cartridges by its detent notch between a first and a second position. Each of the plurality of tape cartridges, when in the first position, has its pressure roller farther from the enclosure rear opening than when in the second position.
Abstract:
A layered information record contains superimposed frames of information wherein a first frame contains luminance information of a scene as density variations of a cyan dye. A second frame superimposed on the first frame contains color encoded chrominance information as density variations of a yellow dye. In a system for playing back the layered information record, white light is projected through the superimposed first and second frames of information and viewed through a red filter for extracting the monochromatic luminance information and a blue filter for extracting the monochromatic color encoded chrominance information.
