Abstract: A process for the production of glycols is provided, the process comprising the steps of: (i) contacting a saccharide-containing feedstock with a catalyst system in a reactor in the presence of a reaction medium, a buffer system for controlling the pH within the reactor, and hydrogen; (ii) withdrawing a reactor product stream from the reactor; (iii) separating the reactor product stream into at least a glycol product stream and a hydrocarbon heavies stream; and (iv) recycling the hydrocarbon heavies stream at least partially back to the reactor; wherein components of the buffer system withdrawn from the reactor in the reactor product stream separate with the heavies stream and are recycled therewith.

Abstract: The invention relates to a liquid natural gas plant for producing liquefied natural gas. The liquid natural gas plant comprises two or more parallel treatment and liquefaction trains, each train comprising a cooling stage arranged to receive a cleaned natural gas stream from a gas treatment stage, an NGL-extraction unit for extracting natural gas liquids, thereby generating a light natural gas stream. The liquid natural gas plant comprises an additional liquefaction train, comprising an additional cooling stage arranged to receive an additional feed stream for generating additional liquefied natural gas. The additional feed stream comprises two or more side streams taken from the light natural gas taken from the respective light natural gas streams of the one or more parallel treatment and liquefaction trains.

Abstract: A mixture of hydrocarbons in vapour phase is passed through a feed scrubber. Feed scrubber vapour discharged from the feed scrubber is passed to a compression suction scrubber, and a vaporous compressor feed stream from the compression suction scrubber is compressed in a compressor train. A compressed vaporous discharge stream from the train of compressors is de-superheated, and at least a portion of the de-superheated stream is passed to a condenser, wherein this portion of the de-superheated stream is at least partly condensed to form a pressurized and at least partially condensed mixture of hydrocarbons. A recycle portion is split off from the de-superheated hydrocarbon stream, and a recycle flow is established to the compressor train of via a surge recycle separator drum and the compression suction scrubber. Liquid constituents removed and drained from the recycle portion in the surge recycle separator drum are fed to the feed scrubber.

Abstract: Implementations of the disclosed subject matter provide a process for producing ethylene glycol from a carbohydrate feed. The process may include contacting, in a reactor under hydrogenation conditions, the carbohydrate feed with a bi-functional catalyst system which may include a heterogeneous hydrogenation catalyst including a magnetically active metal, and a soluble retro-Aldol catalyst including tungstate. A liquid effluent stream may be obtained from the reactor and may include hydrogenation catalyst particles and tungsten oxide precipitate particles. The hydrogenation catalyst particles may be magnetically separated from the tungsten oxide precipitate particles in the liquid effluent stream using a magnet in a separation vessel. The separated hydrogenation catalyst particles may be retained in a separation zone in the separation vessel and may be subsequently removed from the separation zone. A liquid product stream may be obtained from the separation vessel and may include the tungsten oxide precipitate particles and ethylene glycol.
