Abstract: In an example, a method of detecting cyanide exposure of an individual includes: measuring a thiocyanate level of the individual which includes placing saliva of the individual in contact with a chemical indicator to measure the thiocyanate level and measuring thiocyanate (SCN−) catalyzed by enzyme rhodanese of the individual; comparing the measured thiocyanate level to a preset thiocyanate threshold to determine whether the measured thiocyanate level is above the preset thiocyanate threshold indicating a level of cyanide poisoning for which a medical procedure is recommended to manage health effects of the exposure; and performing the medical procedure if the measured thiocyanate level is above the preset thiocyanate threshold and not performing the medical procedure if the measured thiocyanate level is not above the preset thiocyanate threshold.

Abstract: A substrate is printed with front side and back side markings in a first color ink. The front side when viewed with reflected light includes a first marking printed in a first saturation and a first symbol printed in the first saturation. The back side when viewed with reflected light includes: a second marking printed in a second saturation; a second symbol printed in the second saturation; a third marking printed in the first saturation; and a third symbol printed in the first saturation. The first marking, the second marking, and the third marking are printed to provide an interlocking pattern of low saturation color and high saturation color when viewed with transmitted light. The second symbol is visible, and the first symbol and the second symbol are not distinguishably visible, when viewed with transmitted light.

Abstract: An improvement to automatic classifying of threat level of objects in CT scan images of container content, methods include automatic identification of non-classifiable threat level object images, and displaying on a display of an operator a de-cluttered image, to improve operator efficiency. The de-cluttered image includes, as subject images, the non-classifiable threat level object images. Improvement to resolution of non-classifiable threat objects includes computer-directed prompts for the operator to enter information regarding the subject image and, based on same, identifying the object type. Improvement to automatic classifying of threat levels includes incremental updating the classifying, using the determined object type and the threat level of the object type.

Abstract: A method includes receiving distributed sensing information on one or more characteristics associated with a subject from distributed sensors distributed between a starting location spaced from a resolution location and the resolution location. If the subject is sensed by the plurality of distributed sensors, in combination without any break in chain of custody (“COC”), the method does not adjust a reliability of the distributed sensing information caused by any break in COC. If there are one or more time gaps in the COC, the method determines one or more COC factors based on the time gaps and adjusts the reliability of the distributed sensing information based on the one or more COC factors. The method determines a trust score of the subject to assess security concern of the subject based on the distributed sensing information and the reliability thereof, and resolves the security concern based on the trust score.

Abstract: A bag unlocking method includes receiving, by a bag handling system, a bag during a check-in process. The bag handling system identifies, from a travel carrier system, traveler information corresponding to the bag. A securing device of the bag is programmed, using an unlock code pertaining to the traveler information. The bag handling system reads a bag tag of the bag at a baggage inspection station and determines the unlock code pertaining to the bag tag. The bag handling system transmits the unlock code to cause the securing device to unlock at the baggage inspection station.

Abstract: Described herein are examples of evaluating electromagnetic energy reflection data of security scans. In embodiments, a method to evaluate electromagnetic energy reflection data determines whether electronic information of a security scan contains an anomaly, and identifies an anomaly location in the electronic information corresponding to the anomaly. The method determines a subset of the electronic information corresponding to the anomaly location, determines anomaly attributes using the subset of the electronic information, and evaluates the anomaly attributes using a database of reference items by comparing anomaly attributes to respective reference characteristics of reference items or identity information. When a comparison meets the respective match criterion for the given reference item, the method assigns to the anomaly the respective identifier as an anomaly identifier.

Abstract: A portable cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) system includes a first module hub housing, an inflation actuated soft gripper configured to receive an inflation gas, and in response, to change form to a deployed grip state that accommodates and grips a human torso. Features of the portable CPR system include modularity for in-the-field reconfigurability, in which a second module hub housing attaches to the first module hub housing, carrying a CPR pressure applicator configured to receive an actuator power and a CPR control signal causing, concurrent with the deployed grip state, cyclic extension and retraction of the CPR pressure applicator along an axis aligned with a sternum of the human torso.

Abstract: In an example, a thermal imaging test article comprises a block configured to be attached to a blackbody on a back side of the block, the block having a variable thickness to represent facial features of a human face, the block including a cutout to allow a thermal imaging device to see the blackbody behind the block through the cutout, and one or more heaters thermally coupled to the block to produce heat to heat the block. The variable thickness of the block and the heat produced by the one or more heaters are selected to simulate thermally the human face on a front side of the block.
