摘要: A method (300) and a network device (112) for providing a service in a network (100) are disclosed. The network includes an originator device, a network device and one or more target devices. The method includes receiving (304) a request from the originator device for initiating the service with the one or more target devices. Further, the method includes identifying (306) one or more specific initial ranging codes associated with each of the one or more target devices. Furthermore, the method includes transmitting (308) a paging message to each of the one or more target devices in response to the request made by the originator device. Moreover, the method includes transmitting (310) a service signal to the originator device based on response of the one or more target devices within a predefined time interval.

摘要: A plurality of wireless addresses to be transmitted using a shared message and at least one item of informational content are provided (101 and 102). At least some of the plurality of wireless address are then arranged (103) into an order that represents the at least one item of informational content. Upon transmitting (104) a shared message that contains this content, a receiving platform can, in turn, decode (302) (and hence recover) the at least one item of informational content as a function, at least in part, of that aforementioned particular order.

摘要: A system and method for reducing the transmission delay of messages sent through a network from a source mobile unit (112) to a destination mobile unit (114). Portions of a data message are received (202). The portions of the data message are decoded (204) and a type of the data message is determined from the decoded portions. Before the entire data message has been received, processing and service actions are performed as a result of receiving the data message (206) based at least in part upon the type of the data message.

摘要: A call management system (136) and method that allows a first wireless voice call to be temporarily disconnected at a mobile device (130) while another communications session is performed from the same device (130). During a first voice call between a wireless communications device (130) and a second party, a network hold command is received. The second party is then placed on hold and wireless communications resources for the first wireless call are released. The wireless communications device (130) is subsequently reconnected to the second party. The reconnection includes removing the second party from hold and connecting the second party to the second voice call. A unit identifier (240) identifying the wireless communications device (130) is stored in an infrastructure database (114) along with an identifier of the first voice call to facilitate reconnection. Prior to reconnection, a wireless data communications session can be performed.

摘要: A method and computer program for initiating a message to a radio access network include steps of: (404) detecting a request to transmit a probe message from a transmitter over an access channel to a radio access network; (406) calculating a transmit power for the probe message; (408) checking a condition that may result in failure to receive the probe message over the access channel by the radio access network; and (410) when the condition is determined to be true, then (412) reducing a message length of the probe message to generate a shorter probe message; (414) recalculating the transmit power to send the shorter probe message; and (416) transmitting the shorter probe message over the access channel at the recalculated transmit power.

摘要: To address the need for a dispatch mobile (303, 305, 307) to more quickly make a call, in the preferred embodiment of the present invention those remote units operating in a dispatch mode (303, 305, 307) will receive a first slot cycle, while those remote units not operating in a dispatch mode (302, 304, 306, 308) will receive a second slot cycle. The second slot cycle is greater than the first slot cycle, so that those remote units operating in dispatch mode (303, 305, 307) will “wake up” during the slot cycle normally utilized for interconnect calls. Because shorter slot cycles are utilized for remote units operating in dispatch mode (303, 305, 307), the time it takes to make a dispatch call is greatly reduced. Additionally the minimum slot cycle duration typically used for standard calls remains unchanged, greatly conserving battery life.

摘要: In a CDMA wireless communication system (200) a dispatch call can be established between two CDMA mobile stations (202, 226), or between other mobile stations and the CDMA mobile station, or between a CDMA mobile station and a computer (236) located outside of the wireless system. To reduce the delay normally association with call set up in a CDMA system, a dispatch processing network (128, 144) is provided in addition to a telephony switch (118). Dispatch calls and call set up requests are routed to the dispatch processing network from the radio access network (110) which includes base stations (204, 206). Once a dispatch call request is made, while the dispatch processing network begins setting up a traffic channel for the originating mobile communication device, the target is also paged, and upon responding, set up on a traffic channel. The concurrence of establishing radio links with the target and originating communication devices substantially reduces dispatch call set up time.

摘要: To address the need for a communication unit, a communication infrastructure, and method that extend battery life, the present invention provides a special page message (200) that is transmitted toward the beginning of a paging slot to indicate what groups of messages will be transmitted in the paging slot. This message allows communication units (e.g., 102–104) to determine near the beginning of the paging slot whether they need to continue monitoring the paging slot for messages or pages directed or of interest to them. The message also allows communication units that continue monitoring the paging slot to determine when they can cease the monitoring. Thus, communication units can return to a power-saving sleep mode more quickly than the prior art.
