The red converting member receives light from the organic EL element (200) and converts the blue component (B) to a red component (R). At this time, the luminance of the red component (R) is enhanced since the member (360) is strongly excited by the component (θ). As a result, the white balance of three colors is improved. Therefore a color emission device (100) can be provided where the intensity of red light is enhanced.

The organic EL device employing either the compound having a spiro bond or the material for forming luminous coated film in accordance with the present invention is superior in heat resistance, has stability of the thin film composing the device, emits uniform blue light, and exhibits an excellent luminance, current efficiency even under a low driving voltage.

The invention is an organic electroluminescent device that comprises organic compound layer(s) including at least one organic emitting layer sandwiched between a pair of electrodes, wherein at least one organic compound layer is formed from an organic compound material having an impurity concentration of lower than 1000 ppm. The device has the advantages of applicability to lightweight, thin and low-voltage driving displays, good luminescent capacity attenuating little even in long-term driving operation, and good durability.
