    摘要: The efficiency of a fan clutch is improved by having a central finned cover attached to the fan clutch at its rotational axis with fins or blades thereon to disperse air radially outwardly from a dead air bubble at the rotational axis of the fan. This is achieved by a cover having a disk-shaped body with fan fins extending from the rotational axis outwardly to the rim of the disk-shaped body to move air from the rotational axis to prevent the build-up of a negative pressure at the rotational axis and this air flow from the rotational axis into the clutch fan blades appreciably increases the total air flow by the fan clutch. The preferred fins are curved between their inner ends at the rotational axis and their outer ends which extend to the fan blades of the fan clutch. The fins may wrap around the rim of the disk-shaped body and the latter may have a curved outer, front surface.

    摘要: A method and apparatus are used to balance an open blade fan of the kind used with trucks, diesel engine driven generator sets, and the like. An apparatus is used to spin the fans and a vibration sensor senses vibrations and a light beam is used to indicate the location to attach a balancing weight. The fan is spun again and the vibrations measured and additional weights are attached at different specified locations until the measured vibrations are below a predetermined level. The fan includes a plastic body with integral, plastic fan blades which is attached to a central metal hub plate with configured weights attached to matching configured portions of the plastic body. The preferred weights are clips with barbs that pierce the plastic body. The metal hub plates are electrostatically painted to provide a uniformly thick coating with good adhesion. An ultraviolet light additive is provided in the plastic body with the fan blades being reinforced with glass particles and rendered UV resistant by the UV additive.

    摘要: A cooling fan assembly (10) includes a hubless polymer fan body molded around the perimetrical flange (20) of a metallic mounting hub (12). The fan body includes a circumferential ring (18) interlocked with the flange (20) and a plurality of fan blades (16) projecting outwardly from the ring (18). The fan body (14) is formed in an injection mold with molten polymer material being introduced into the mold at hot runner locations (25) disposed between the circumferential ring (18) and the root diameter (17) of the fan blades (16). At one face of the hubless fan (14), the circumferential ring (18) includes a plurality of uniformly spaced raised bosses (30). Each boss (30) defines a bore (31) configured to receive a balancing weight therein, preferably in the form of a balancing screw (35) threaded into the bore. The bosses (30) are interconnected by a stiffening ring (33) having a height substantially equal to the height (h) of the bosses (30). The stiffening ring (33) is modified between a plurality of pairs of bosses (30) to define a recessed flat (38). On the opposite face of the hubless fan (14), the circumferential ring (18) includes a plurality of raised tabs (40), arranged and configured to mate within a corresponding recessed flat (38). The corresponding recessed flats (38) and raised tabs (40) nest between stacked fan assemblies (10) to enhance the stability and increase the number and height of stacked sets of assemblies.

The body (23) includes cooling fins (61) covering substantially all of the rearward surface (59) of the body not covered by the mounting portions. The fan hub (17) also includes a rearwardly extending air dam portion (81), limiting localized radial air flow. The present invention is able to improve the radial air flow through the body cooling fins and achieve substantially greater heat dissipation from the fan drive assembly, thus permitting greater fan speed for a given input speed.

The invention provides an assembly and method which eliminate the need for bolts, and the associated drilling and tapping of threaded holes in the output member, as well as the time-consuming bolting process in the assembly plant, and the periodic bolt strippage and associated warranty problems.
