摘要: A radio frequency receiver and method for operating one is disclosed. The receiver includes a tuning unit, an inphase-quadrature (I/Q) mixer, and a calibrated image rejection processor. The tuning unit selectably tunes to a tuning frequency close but not equal to an input modulated radio frequency and creates thereby a periodic signal having the tuning frequency. The I/Q mixer convolves the modulated radio frequency signal with inphase and quadrature versions of the periodic signal and low pass filters the resultant signals. The calibrated image rejection processor corrects at least one of the filtered resultant signals and performs image rejection on the corrected signals.

摘要: A time-share mixer circuit and a frequency converter, an I-Q modulator, and an I-Q demodulator. A switching signal drives the time-share mixer circuit to alternate between two output signals. The first output signal represents the output of a mixer having a given signal input and a local oscillator signal with a first phase as its local oscillator input. The second output signal represents the output of the mixer having the same input signal and the local oscillator signal with a second phase that differs from the first phase by 90 degrees as its local oscillator input signal. The frequency converter uses the time-share mixer in combination with a switched output phase shifter that switches in sync with the phase of the local oscillator signal to generate a phase shifted output signal in which the time average of an undesired image signal is substantially reduced compared to time average of the desired signal. The phase shifted output signal is then amplified by a bandpass amplifier. A clocked inverter in series with one of the mixer ports provides improved performance by eliminating the need for two precisely phase-shifted local oscillator signals.

摘要: A dielectric resonator image reject mixer and method comprises an amplifier for amplifying a receive frequency (RF) signal and outputting a first combined signal comprising a RF signal, a RF noise signal, and an image noise signal. A dielectric resonator image rejector is coupled to the amplifier. The dielectric resonator image rejector receives the first combined signal but outputs only a second combined signal comprising the RF signal and the RF noise signal to a mixer coupled to the dielectric resonator image rejector. The image noise signal is rejected by either reflection or resonant transmission to a resistor-terminated microstrip line. A mixer mixes the combined RF signal and the RF noise signal from the dielectric resonator image rejector with a local oscillation frequency signal, producing an intermediate frequency output signal.

摘要: A radio receiver has a frequency down conversion stage including a first passive filter tuned to a lower frequency. An amplifier functioning as a voltage-to-current converter includes a resistor (60) which can be shunted by a second passive filter in response to actuation of symmetrically arranged switching devices. When the second passive filter shunts the resistor, the overall pass band is raised to a higher frequency. Additionally, the amplifier has a lower noise figure when the second passive filter shunts the transconductor.

摘要: A feed network parallel superconductive tunnel junction circuit that acts as a doubly balanced mixer and can be utilized as a millimeter wave satellite communications link. A quadrature-fed mixer circuit relies on a network of 90 degree couplers to feed signal and local oscillator power to four identical SIS detectors where SIS is a superconductor-insulator-superconductor layer construction. Power applied to either port is split equally to each detector, and the relative phase relationship of the signal and the LO is preserved. By selecting the appropriate polarity of the dc junction bias, the detected IF output of the SIS detectors adds coherently.

摘要: A high frequency receiver detects and downconverts 50-1,000 GHz radio frequency signals using a receiver consisting of a lens and planar antenna, pre-amplifier, mixer, local oscillator, and IF-amplifier. The insulating dielectric lens is used to focus terahertz radio frequency signals onto the thin film antenna. The preamplifier amplifies these faint signals so that they can be downconverted into an intermediate frequency by the mixer and local oscillator. The mixer is a dual port device which provides isolation of the local oscillator and input signal to avoid saturation of the preamplifier. The IF amplifier boosts the amplitude of the downconverted IF signal produced by the mixer.

摘要: A mixer separates IF components IF1, IF2 of the same frequency which are images of different frequency RF signals RF1, RF2 beating with a given LO signal. The LO signal is applied to a FET active power divider and applied to the drains of a pair of balanced FET mixing elements. The FETs for the active power divider are built from the same device structure as the FETs for the mixing elements sharing drain nodes. The RF signals are passed through a quadrature phase shifter and applied to the gates of the FET mixing elements. The mixed signals appear at the drains of FET mixing elements are applied to opposing ports of a second quadrature hybrid at whose output ports the separated IF output signals IF1, IF2 appear.

摘要: The invention comprises a frequency converter for converting an input frequency to an output frequency where the frequenicies are widely separated. The system includes a free running output oscillator adapted to be injection locked to an output frequency. A local oscillator having a frequency near the output frequency, has its signal mixed with the input frequency to obtain a signal containing sideband frequencies which are both above and below the local oscillator frequency. Means are provided for separating the sideband frequencies and applying one of the sidebands as an injection locking signal to the free running oscillator. In the preferred embodiment, the bandwidth of the free running output oscillator is centered above the highest sideband frequency if the sideband is lower in frequency than the frequency of the local oscillator or is centered below the lowest sideband frequency is the sideband is higher in frequency than the frequency of the local oscillator.
