Abstract: A microwave applicator device comprising a probe (11) for ablating the body of a human or animal, a cooling passage (20,21) extending through the probe (11) and arranged to carry a cooling fluid, a pump (71) for pumping the fluid through the probe (11), and an elongate flexible duct (104) extending between the pump (71) and one end of the cooling passage (20,21), the pump comprising a pump body (73) including a motor (120) and a pump head (72) detachably mounted to the pump body (73), the pump head (72) comprising a first port (86) connected to a proximal end of the elongate flow duct (104), a second port (85) and fluid propulsion means (84,92) for creating a flow of fluid between the ports (85,86) and along the elongate flow duct 104 upon energization of the motor (120), the pump head (72) being arranged to sealingly contain the fluid. The pump head (72), the elongate flexible duct (104) and the probe (11) form a replaceable assembly that can be detached from the pump body (73) and discarded following use.

Abstract: A tissue treatment selection device that has at least one treatment delivery member, a delivery setting circuit that is coupled to the treatment delivery member that is adapted to be deployed into tissue to deliver therapeutic energy to a target tissue zone, and the processing circuit is operable to set treatment parameters in the delivery setting circuit that is operable to set treatment parameters in the delivery setting circuit. The processing circuit is operable to transmit a test signal through the deployed treatment delivery member and to determine deployment status. The treatment selection device has a processing circuit adapted to send a message to a display device that indicates that the deployed treatment delivery member has been determined to be compensable and contains a suggested change in the treatment parameters. Also presented herein is a method of treating a tissue of a patient using the treatment delivery device.

Abstract: A pressure actuated valve for controlling the flow of fluid through a medical device, the valve comprises a housing including a lumen extending therethrough and a flow control membrane extending across the lumen to control the flow of fluid through the lumen. The membrane includes a plurality of slits extending therethrough so that, when the membrane is acted upon by a pressure of at least a threshold magnitude, the slits open to permit flow through the lumen and, when not acted upon by a pressure of at least the predetermined magnitude, the slits are maintained dosed by a biasing force applied thereto by the membrane to prevent flow through the lumen. Each of the slits extends between end portions thereof along a curve wherein a distance between a first end portion of a first one of the slits and a first end portion of a second one of the slits is a minimum distance between the first and second slits.

Abstract: A medical device comprises a flexible member that can be adhesively attached to a housing of the medical device, allowing implantation of the medical device into a body through an incision of reduced size. Abstract: A microwave applicator having a probe which comprises an elongate shaft (14), the shaft having an external tubular wall (18), a radiating portion (15) disposed at the distal end of the shaft (14), a transmission line (17) extending to the radiating portion internally of the tubular external wall (18), and an elongate flow dividing member (19) which co-extends with the transmission line (17) longitudinally of the shaft (14), the side wall of the transmission line (17) and the side wall of the flow dividing member (19) contacting each other and contacting the internal surface of the external tubular wall (18) at two-spatially separated discrete positions, thereby defining a pair of flow channels (20, 21) inside the shaft (14). In use, cooling fluid can pass down one channel (20) and return via the other channel (21). The structure of the probe is uncomplicated and the probe is straightforward to assemble.
