Abstract:
A method of measuring the gas flow of an incondensable gas in a flowing mixture of said incondensable gas and a condensable gas comprising the steps of calibrating a leak detector; injecting a known quantity of gauge gas at a known mass flow rate into said flowing mixture of gases; drawing a sample of the said gauge mix off at a sample point; passing said sample through a condenser so as to remove said condensable gas from the gauge mix, resulting in a test mix; passing the said test mix into the leak detector so as to measure the concentration of the gauge gas within the test mix; and calculating the mass flow rate of said incondensable gas within said flowing mixture. There is also provided a method of measuring the rate of ingress of an incondensable gas at an ingress point along a flow path of a flowing mixture of said incondensable gas and a condensable gas.
Abstract:
The present invention arises from the identification of an association between the TDOA gene and osteoarthritis (OA). It therefore relates to diagnostic techniques for determining a patient's susceptibility to develop OA by detecting all or part of the TDOA gene, its precursors or products (mRNA, cDNA, genomic DNA, or protein). In particular, the invention relates to methods and materials for analysing allelic variation in the TDOA gene, and to the use of TDOA polymorphisms in the identification of an individuals' risk to develop OA. The TDOA protein has been found to bind to α-paxillin, a protein involved in integrin signal transduction which itself is a process with strong links to OA. The invention is thus also directed to methods for identifying modulators of OA, which modulate the TDOA gene or interfere with TDOA:α-paxillin binding.
Abstract:
A knife includes a blade, and a handle. The handle includes a first wire form that is substantially U-shaped and is attached at only one end of the first wire form to the blade, and also includes a second wire form that is attached at only one end of the second wire form to the blade. The first wire form and the second wire form are substantially parallel elements of the single handle.
Abstract:
A gauge has a face plate which includes indicia thereon to indicate specific values of a parameter. A laser system is disposed behind and/or in front of the face plate to project a beam onto the face plate to indicate the value of a parameter. A stepper motor moves the beam based upon the output of a sensor which monitors the parameter.
Abstract:
A refrigerator includes a housing defining a freezer storage compartment, an evaporator operatively coupled to the freezer storage compartment and configured to cool the freezer storage compartment, and an evaporator fan positioned to move air across the evaporator. The refrigerator also includes an ice maker positioned within the freezer storage compartment, a dispenser in flow communication with the ice maker and configured to dispense ice, and a control system configured to receive a signal from said dispenser indicating dispensing of a first amount of ice from the dispenser, the control system configured to activate the evaporator fan in response to the signal, the evaporator fan operating continuously for a time period upon activation.
Abstract:
Disclosed herein is a cleaning article as an article of manufacture which includes a substrate onto which a cleaning composition is partially impregnated, leaving a portion of the substrate not impregnated with the composition. The impregnated part or side of the substrate is used to clean surfaces, especially vitro-ceramic surfaces while the unimpregnated part or side of the substrate is then used to dry and buff the cleaned surface.
Abstract:
The present disclosure describes a certain isoflavone-enhanced domestic animal feed compositions and methods of producing such feed compositions. In one particular implementation, a feed composition includes a soy meal that is no more than about 20 weight percent of the feed composition. This soy meal has a soy isoflavone content that provides the feed composition with a soy isoflavone concentration, normalized to an aglycone content of about 250-1400 parts per million on a weight basis (ppm), e.g., about 800-1200 ppm. Feed compositions in certain adaptations have demonstrated some advantages over feeds with lower isoflavone content.
Abstract:
A method of operating a hydraulic system of a loader arm carrying a working implement, the system having a ride improvement system and a selection valve connected to first and second chambers of a ram which operates the loader arm. A check valve assembly is provided, with the check valve assembly being responsive to pressure changes in the second chamber. The check valve assembly, when closed, prevents fluid from passing between the first chamber to the selection valve. Means are provided communicating the fluid pressure in the second chamber to the check valve, with the means responsive to pressure changes in the second chamber to open the check valve. The selection valve is operable to raise the loader arm with the system arranged to permit passage of fluid between the first chamber and the accumulator while permitting fluid to pass from the second chamber to a low pressure region.
Abstract:
A hydraulic system for steering an aircraft while taxiing selectively applies pressurized fluid to different ports of a hydraulic motor to turn a landing gear wheel either left or right. Shimmy of the landing gear attached to the wheel is dampened by a device that is coupled across the hydraulic lines that are connected to the motor. That device has a piston in a bore with one hydraulic line connected via an orifice to a first chamber on one side of the piston and the other hydraulic line connected via a different orifice to a second chamber on the other side of the piston. The piston stroke is limited to control the effective oscillation damping amplitude. The shimmy produces an oscillating pressure differential in the two hydraulic lines which is dampened by the device.
Abstract:
A variety of modified Bacillus anthracis bacteria useful in vaccines are provided. For instance, asporogenic strains of Bacillus anthracis are provided. In addition, Bacillus anthracis strains attenuated in their ability to repair their nucleic acid, such as in their nucleic acid excision repair ability or recombination repair ability, are provided. Strains expressing an antigen, such as protective antigen, under the control of a heterologous promoter and/or an inducible promoter are also provided. Bacillus anthracis bacteria comprising mutations in toxin genes are further provided. Vaccine compositions comprising the bacteria, methods of making the modified strains, and methods of using the vaccines are also provided.
