Abstract:
An anti-staining, antibacterial dentifrice comprises an anti-staining effective amount of an orally acceptable polymer or copolymer that comprises a plurality of monomeric groups of formula (I) wherein (a) one of A and A′ is hydrogen and the other is a moiety (X)n(R)m, (b) n in individual such moieties is independently 0 or 1, (c) linking groups X if present independently comprise an oxygen, sulfur, nitrogen, phosphorus or silicon atom, (d) where n is 0, m is 1, and where n is 1, m is independently an integer from 1 to 3 as determined by X, (e) terminal groups R are independently hydrogen or C1-18 organic radicals, and (f) M and M′ are independently selected from hydrogen, alkali metal and ammonium; said polymer or copolymer having an average molecular weight of at least about 1,000. The dentifrice further comprises an antibacterial effective amount of an orally acceptable halogenated diphenylether antibacterial agent, and an antibacterial enhancing effective amount of an orally acceptable polyvinylmethylether/maleic anhydride copolymer.
Abstract:
A method for whitening a dental surface comprises nonsimultaneously applying a whitening composition to the surface, the whitening composition comprising at least one orally acceptable peroxy compound, and directing a volume of up to about 2.5 ml of an atomized activating composition on to the surface, wherein the activating composition comprises, in the volume so directed, a peroxy compound activating effective amount of at least one orally acceptable basifying agent, and wherein applying the whitening composition and directing the activating composition are separated by an interval not greater than a peroxy compound activating effective interval. The atomized composition can be directed on to the dental surface before or after application of the whitening composition.
Abstract:
A toothpaste formulation contains an oxidizing agent as a whitening ingredient. The activation of the oxidizing agent occurs through the use of a toothbrush having a source of light energy which includes LED's in the bristle field of the toothbrush. The toothbrush could be a manual toothbrush or a powered toothbrush.
Abstract:
A dental tray with a hydrophobic tooth whitening formulation where the tooth whitening formulation is substantially non-water soluble, and a method of using this dental tray to whiten the teeth. The tooth whitening formulation is primarily comprised of a hydrophobic polymer and a peroxide or a peroxide yielding compound. Preferably the hydrophobic polymer is the condensation product of a silicone resin and an organosiloxane. The dental tray is formed to encompass the front and the rear surfaces of the teeth. The dental tray is comprised of a thermoplastic or thermoset polymer. The teeth whitening formulation is placed into the dental tray and the tray placed against the teeth to be whitened. This is for a sufficient period of time to at least partially whiten teeth. This can be a period of time from about 0.5 hour to 2 hours or more. The substantially non-aqueous tooth whitening formulation is effective over a longer period of time since it is not significantly diluted or removed from the dental tray during the treatment time.

A striped dentifrice stable to color bleeding, wherein at least one dentifrice component contains a colorant entrained in a matrix of synthetic wax particles having a melting point range as measured by DSC is between about 40° C. and about 135° C. and the peak endotherm temperature is at least about 65° C., whereby on storage no off-taste is detected in the dentifrice nor is there any observable colorant bleeding into any other dentifrice component.
Abstract:
A striped dentrifrice stable color bleeding, wherein at least one component contains a colorant entrained in the matrix of substantially non-fracturable, partially cross-linked melamine-urea-formaldehyde condensation polymer particles, whereby on storage the colorant does not bleed any color into any other dentifrice component. The dentifrice may also contain a formaldehyde scavenger to bind-up any formaldehyde released from the particles.

A storage stable aqueous oral composition which is effective against calculus which contains an orally acceptable vehicle having incorporated therein from about 10% to up to about 15% by weight water, an effective anticalculus combination of about 0.5 to about 2% by weight of a water soluble pyrophosphate salt and about 0.5 to about 3% by weight of a water soluble polyphosphate salt. The presence in the composition of relatively high amounts of water affect the stability of the composition.

A method for inhibiting dental calculus concomitant with tooth whitening is disclosed wherein there is applied to the teeth an oral composition containing in a vehicle an amount of a anticalculus phosphate salt and an amount of calcium peroxide effective to whiten teeth, the vehicle containing about 4 to about 9% by weight water and an amount of calcined alumina effective to heighten the whitening effect of the CaO2, and allowing the composition to remain on the teeth for a time sufficient to effect whitening thereof.

An oral composition of acceptable taste substantially non-irritating to oral tissue and stable to viscosity change during storage is disclosed wherein the composition contains a surfactant system comprised of a sodium lauryl sulfoacetate surfactant purified to contain less than 18% by weight impurities and an C.sub.12 -C.sub.22 alkyl glycoside.
