摘要: Techniques for altering application user-interface controls are provided. More particularly the customization of a new or existing user-interface control in an application user-interface is provided. In one aspect of the invention, a method for customizing user-interface controls of an existing application comprises the recording of a procedure description performed by a user in the application user-interface. A new or modified application user-interface control relating to the procedure description is then installed in the existing application.

摘要: Linear optimization queries, which usually arise in various decision support and resource planning applications, are queries that retrieve top N data records (where N is an integer greater than zero) which satisfy a specific optimization criterion. The optimization criterion is to either maximize or minimize a linear equation. The coefficients of the linear equation are given at query time. Methods and apparatus are disclosed for constructing, maintaining and utilizing a multidimensional indexing structure of database records to improve the execution speed of linear optimization queries. Database records with numerical attributes are organized into a number of layers and each layer represents a geometric structure called convex hull. Such linear optimization queries are processed by searching from the outer-most layer of this multi-layer indexing structure inwards. At least one record per layer will satisfy the query criterion and the number of layers needed to be searched depends on the spatial distribution of records, the query-issued linear coefficients, and N, the number of records to be returned. When N is small compared to the total size of the database, answering the query typically requires searching only a small fraction of all relevant records, resulting in a tremendous speedup as compared to linearly scanning the entire dataset.

摘要: Similarity measure has been one of the critical issues for successful content-based retrieval. Simple quadratic forms of distance is inadequate as it does not necessary correspond to perceived similarity nor is it adaptive to different applications. This patent application describes a new sequential query processing algorith for evaluating content-based composite object queries. The composite objects consist of spatial and temporal arrangements of simple objects. The simple objects are defined in terms of spatial, temporal, feature and semantic attributes. The query method defines a process for executing a best-first search for the matches to the query, while providing a flexible framework for broadening the search space as required. The query method guarantees that there are no false dismissals of the candidate composite objects.

摘要: A color printer has imaging stations disposed along a photoreceptor belt for producing images on the belt, the belt passing around an idler roll. One or more of the imaging stations is disposed on one side of the idler roll and a plurality of the imaging stations is disposed on an opposite side of the idler roll. A belt driver drives the photoreceptor belt around the idler roll and past the imaging stations. The printer includes a system for compensating for eccentricity in the idler roll to preserve registration among the images of the respective imaging stations, the system including a particular spacing of the imaging stations, a sensor of an index of the idler roll, and a corrector responsive to a position of the index for outputting an eccentricity correction to the belt driver. The correction alters the location on the belt of the image of the one or more imaging stations on the one side of the idler roll to compensate for the eccentricity by altering the speed of the belt or timing of the image scanning within each of the one or more imaging stations. Values of the correction are synchronized with the location of an index on the idler wheel.

摘要: An improved multidimensional data indexing technique that generates compact indexes such that most or all of the index can reside in main memory at any time. During the clustering and dimensionality reduction, clustering information and dimensionality reduction information are generated for use in a subsequent search phase. The indexing technique can be effective even in the presence of variables which are not highly correlated. Other features provide for efficiently performing exact and nearest neighbor searches using the clustering information and dimensionality reduction information. One example of the dimensionality reduction uses a singular value decomposition technique. The method can also be recursively applied to each of the reduced-dimensionality clusters. The dimensionality reduction also can be applied to the entire database as a first step of the index generation.

摘要: An image reproduction machine is provided, and includes a paper substrate feeding assembly having a substrate path for feeding a portion of paper substrate; a moveable image bearing member having an imaging path; toner image forming devices along the imaging path for forming a toner image on the image bearing member; an image transfer station along the substrate path for transferring the toner image onto a portion of paper substrate fed by the paper substrate feeding assembly; and a toner image fusing assembly having heat and pressure devices for heating and fusing the toner image onto the portion of paper substrate. The reproduction machine importantly includes a blank paper substrate preconditioning apparatus (PSPA) for changing and stabilizing a size of the portion of paper substrate before it is fed to the image transfer station. The PSPA is mounted along the substrate path and upstream of the image transfer station relative to movement of the portion of paper substrate, and includes heat and pressure devices for preheating and pre-stressing the portion of paper substrate, thereby causing it to change size to an extent not alterable by subsequent application of heat and pressure within the toner image fusing assembly, thus resulting in highly registered quality reproduced toner images.

摘要: A method of achieving optimum optical contrast for detecting registration marks in a multicolor electrophotographic printing machine. The reflectivity of the image carrying member which is usually an intermediate transfer belt is determined. The reflectivity of each of the toners is then determined. If one of the toners has a contrasting reflectivity, while the remaining toners do not contrast then a uniform field of the contrasting toner is imaged and developed and the registration marks for the other toner colors are then developed on top of the uniform field. A void in the field in the shape of the other toner marks is used as the registration mark for the contrasting toner. If all of the toners have a contrasting reflectivity with the belt, the registration marks are imaged and developed directly on the belt.

摘要: A method and apparatus for controlling speed match between a photoreceptor and an intermediate transfer member to prevent image degradation by creating a deliberate speed mismatch. It has been found that slight variations in speed match between a photoreceptor and transfer member will maintain acceptable image quality, however, should the relative velocity between the members change sign, unacceptable image error results. The method herein comprises slewing the velocity of a photoreceptive member over a range of speeds while monitoring the output control signal current of a drive motor. The resulting control signal current has a large oscillation at the velocity at which the speed of the photoreceptor matches that of the intermediate transfer member. A controller is then used to maintain the motor velocity at a speed slightly less than or slightly greater than the intermediate transfer member speed so as to prevent a change in sign of the relative velocity between the two moving surfaces.

摘要: An apparatus for guiding a moving web, particularly in an electrophotographic printing machine of the type having an endless photoreceptor belt supported by a plurality of rolls and arranged to move in a predetermined path through a plurality of processing stations disposed therealong the web being of the type which is supported by a plurality of rolls. A roll for supporting the web and in frictional contact therewith is adapted for rotational movement about a first axis. A roll support in the form of a dead shaft allows the roll laterally move to pivot about a second axis in a direction substantially normal to the predetermined path direction. This is accomplished by supporting the dead shaft on a V-groove roller which rides in a track substantially along the arc of rotation normal to the predetermined path direction. Any web tracking normal to the predetermined direction exerts a friction force on the roll causing the roll to pivot about the second axis as a result of the v-groove rollers moving along the tracks in a direction substantially normal to the predetermined direction such that the roll aligns itself so that its axis of rotation is substantially perpendicular to the direction of travel of the belt.
