Abstract:
An apparatus for filtering and cooling liquid, with four filtration chambers are connected by a series of passageways. The apparatus is mounted on a cart so that it may be rolled into position under a machine quickly and easily. Once the apparatus is in position, the machine is drained of its debris-laden oil which flows directly into the first chamber and through the first wire mesh filter. The liquid is then forced either by gravity or by pressure through the remaining chambers and their respective filters which have progressively smaller pore sizes. The tortuous movement of the liquid around the weirs helps to cool the liquid while the filters remove foreign particles from the liquid. Once the liquid reaches the fourth chamber, a pump is used to pump the cleansed liquid back into the machine so that it may be reused. The inlet to the pump may be fitted with an optional fifth filter element. Each chamber houses a tray assembly which includes a handle that protrudes above the chamber, a bracket that hold the replaceable wire mesh filters, and a catch pan that collects any solids that have settled to the bottom of each chamber. The filters have gaskets to prevent fluids from by-passing the filters and the filter pore size can vary with the application. The first embodiment may be operated at atmospheric pressure, while a second embodiment is equipped with a top on the tank which allows the system to be pressurized.
Abstract:
Filter apparatus for filtering contaminants from a fluid, such as machine tool coolant, are disclosed. One filter apparatus includes a filter drum unit having a generally cylindrical open perforated support sheet with a cylindrical screen element mounted thereabout. Circumference varying mechanisms, such as turnbuckles, are connected relative to the support plate to vary the circumference of the support plate and the tautness of the screen element. A disc filter assembly having a mandrel and fluidly attached annular disc filter elements is also described. Each annular disc filter element has an inner structure with concentric ribs forming concentric grooves therebetween which are connected to radially extending grooves. A screen element is supported by the ribs so that the microscreen will not tear while allowing filtering of fluid into the grooves which are in fluid communication with the mandrel. A disc filter assembly having a mandrel in fluid communication with a plurality of rectangular disc filter elements is also described. Each disc filter element has a rectangular inner structure which is pleated or folded in an accordion-like fashion. A retainer secures screen elements about the inner structure to prevent contaminants from passing therebetween.
Abstract:
A disc filter assembly includes a number of filter discs mounted in a vat by a horizontal shaft with an inter-disc volume between the discs. A feed mechanism is provided that makes it possible to feed the pulp suspension onto the surface of the liquid, directed toward the most concentrated pulp in the vat, in such a manner that the feed is insensitive to fluctuations of the suspension surface level in the vat. This is accomplished by feeding the suspension into the vat interior directly into each of the inter-disc volumes, as by using a chute (which may have the approximate configuration of a hollow triangular parallelepiped) for each volume. A header for supplying pulp suspension to the chutes may be mounted on or spaced from the sidewall of the vat, or above the vat.
Abstract:
The present invention introduces a fiber suspension thickener, particularly adapted for thickening cellulose fiber. The thickener comprises a vat; a hollow filter assembly in the form of a horizontal cylindrical drum disposed within the vat, whereby the drum may be rotated by a motor around its horizontal axis, and whereby the cirumferential walls of the drum are made of a filter material; either a spray nozzle or some other supply conduit that furnishes a fiber suspension into the interior of the vat, so that the drum becomes submerged within a pool of the fiber suspension; a discharge outlet for discharging the fiber suspension on the ascending side of the rotating drum; and a turbulence creating device, that can take many forms, for creating turbulence and mixing the fiber suspension on the ascending side of the rotating drum. The turbulence creating device prevents coarse fibers within the fiber suspension from caking or matting on the exterior of the filter material of the drum, and improves the overall thickening capability of the present invention.
Abstract:
Materials including suspended particles are brought together and then separated into two streams one of which only contains the particles, the output streams having different composition from inlet streams. Separation is effected in filtration modules which include a moving runner with wall conditioning elements which dislodge accumulated particles from porous walls of filters.
Abstract:
In an apparatus for separating particulate material from a particle-containing liquid, at least the section of the cylindrical housing (10) provided with perforations (5) is designed as a driveable drum sieve (2') so that the solid materials are optimally separated from the liquid phase and are at the same time freed from particulate impurities.
Abstract:
A machine tool coolant filtering system (10) is disclosed as including a plurality of coolant filter tanks (12). Each filter tank (12) is designated for receiving coolant carrying a different material contaminant. A fluid control communication system (22) controls the communication of coolant from the machine tools to the coolant filter tanks (12). A liquid level sensor (40) senses coolant level within a respective tank (12). A modulating valve (46) in communication with the liquid level sensing means (40) senses the liquid level in the respective tank (12). If the coolant level in its respective tank (12) falls below a threshold range, the respective modulating valve (46) is closed to restrict coolant from being removed from its respective tank (12) to maintain the coolant level in the respective tank. If the coolant level in the respective tank (12) rises above the threshold range, the respective modulating valve (46) is opened to allow removal of coolant, to maintain the coolant level within the threshold range in each coolant filter tank (12). The coolant filtering system (10) segregates different material contaminants carried by common machine tool coolant for recycling.
Abstract:
A self-cleaning scroll and screen centrifuge for processing a combined liquid and solid material to separate the solid material from the liquid. The centrifuge is designed for use in the food processing industry and therefore has fluid injectors for cleaning all surfaces within the centrifuge including opposed mating surfaces which function as noncontacting seal mechanisms.
Abstract:
In a rotating filter a filter cloth (18) is arranged outside a filter skeleton (34, 36). The filter cloth is provided with at least one bending resistant element (37, 38) extending through a pocket (49) arranged in or on the filter cloth (18) to restrain bulging of the filter cloth due to forces perpendicular to the plane of the filter cloth. The filter sector skeleton (34, 35, 36, 45) is provided with radially outer support and guide means (43, 44) and radially inner support and guide means (45, 46). The bending resistant element (37, 38) is at its ends adapted for detachable engagement with said means such that the ends are undisplaceable perpendicularly to the support and guide means (43, 44, 45, 46). Preferably, at least one end of the bending resistant element is displaceable in the circumferential direction of the filter sector.
Abstract:
Disclosed are a filter cake scraping method which can scrape a filter cake layer deposited on the surface of a filter drum with a scrape blade even if the particles of the cake are fine, and a rotary drum filter using this method. When pressure inside a suspension vessel rises above a predetermined value, a control means quickly reduces the pressure. Accordingly, precoated material or the like, which has been deposited on the filter drum, expands to push a layer of filter cake outward, thus permitting a scrape blade provided beside the filter drum to scrape the expanded cake layer.
