    Abstract: A paving block for covering the ground, floor and like surfaces. The paving block is generally planar with a vertical dimension. The upper and lower planar surfaces and the vertical sides define a pentagon. the pentagon has three longer sides and two shorter sides. Two of the longer sides are equal. The third longer side is at least as long as the two equal longer sides. The two equal longer sides are joined at one end at a 90.degree. internal angle. Each is joined at its opposite end to one of the shorter sides at a 90.degree. internal angle and each shorter side is then joined at a 135.degree. internal angle to the third longer side. The third longer side opposes the right angle between the two equal longer sides and is bisected by a line bisecting the 90.degree. angle between the two equal longer sides. The pentagonal paving block may be used to create homogeneous designs or in combination with a square paving block, the exterior sides of which are equal in length to the adjoining longer sides of the pentagonal block.

    Abstract: The elements with opening are preferably combined into a lawn plate with openings, whereby these elements with opening are impressed. The plate comprises in its longitudinal direction an indentation whereby a bulge is provided on one side and a narrowing on the other side with a width corresponding to that of an element with opening, and of the paving stone.The individual elements with openings are compatible with paving stones so that these paving stones can be seamlessly adjoined to the element with an opening. When the elements are laid without adjoining paving stones, the plates interlock to provide a pleasant configuration. The arrangement of the individual elements with openings have different dimensions vary within large limits.In another embodiment, the element with an opening is in two parts connected together by a traverse having a smaller thickness. The two lower, lateral edges of the lower part form part of a sector and a distance piece is provided at the upper edge on both sides of the upper part, the outer edges of this distance piece enclosing the same angle than the lower, lateral edges. These elements with opening can be laid in a straight configuration or in a circle around a tree.

    Abstract: A paving block to produce an accurate, smooth upper surface and accurate spacing between joints in which the body of a block is provided with flanges flush with the top surface on two adjacent edges of the square block, and flanges flush with the bottom surface on the remaining two edges of the block, with studs projecting from the body of the block outwardly in the direction of the second flanges but being substantially shorter than the width of the flanges and lying in the rabbet for engagement with the first flanges of similar paving blocks to obtain a uniform spacing between the blocks which is filled with sand or gravel to produce a neat, uniform appearance. The studs may be separate elements driven into the block, or may be reinforcing rods extending completely through the block through the first flanges and projecting outwardly in the rabbet formed by the second flanges.
