Abstract: A method for producing labels of different label variants includes: performing first and second printing operations to form on a source material web using a digital printing device first and second digital prints associated with first and second label variants, respectively, the two digital prints differing at least with respect to a respective print image; forming on the source material web a machine-readable indicating element detectably different from the first and second label variants and arranged to indicate a change of label variant type; and die cutting to form a material web and processing the web, including controlling and making up the first label variant, detecting the indicating element using a controller, cutting the web in the transition between the label variants and controlling and making up the second label variant so that separate first and second label webs are formed with the first and second label variants, respectively.

Abstract: Systems and methods are provided for creating printed tags for use in connection with a heated food item placed into a hot holding unit. System components may include a user interface, a printer, and a controller. The controller is programmed to instruct the user interface to display a prompt for an operator to input information identifying one or more characteristics of a food item positioned within or to be placed into a hot holding unit. The controller receives the information from the user interface and instructs the printer to generate a tag identifying the food item and the time at which the food item is to be removed from the hot holding unit and discarded. The tag may include a display area to display the printed information and a support area with a slit that allows the tag to be supported by a rack of the hot holding unit.

Abstract: A label sheet assembly and method is disclosed for improving the process of feeding label sheets through a printer. The label sheet assembly may include a facestock layer and a liner sheet. The facestock layer may include an adhesive layer along at least a portion of a first side and include a label surface along at least a portion of the second side opposite the adhesive layer. The liner sheet layer may include at least one surface feature provided along a back side of the liner sheet. In another embodiment, the facestock layer may include at least one surface feature provided along the front of the facestock layer. The surface features may create a zone of increased friction or increase tactile sensitivity along the various surfaces of the label sheet assembly to improve printer processing.

Abstract: A duplex label includes a label stock presenting opposite top and bottom faces that correspond to a label top and a label bottom, respectively. The label top is printable to receive exposed indicia that is visible when the label is adhered to the substrate. A pattern of adhesive is applied to only part of the bottom face of the label stock so as to define an adhesive portion of the label bottom. The printable portion is operable to receive hidden indicia when the print coating is activated, with the hidden indicia being concealed cooperatively by the label stock and substrate until the label is at least partly removed. The adhesive portion and the printable portion are nonoverlapping.
